Latest report shows church giving
at the top
 
Only three areas of giving experienced an increase in 2008 and the area of religious organizations was at the top of that list, increasing by 5.5%, according to Giving USA 2009. Read or print our summary.

La. biggest gainer in construction jobs
Louisiana saw a 3.2% gain in construction jobs in August, which adds up to 4400 more jobs. This is exceptionally good for Louisiana when you factor in that construction workers account for almost one third of all jobs lost nationwide.
 
Baton Rouge ranks third
The capital region has held its own during the recession: it was ranked as having the third best job market in the country, according to Bizjournals.com's employment rankings.
 
Louisiana unemployment filings drop
First-time claims for unemployment dropped to 4,519 for the week ending Saturday, October 2. That's down from the 4,767 claims that were reported for the week ending Sept. 19, says the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
