Upbeat Focus
La. biggest gainer in construction jobs
Louisiana saw a 3.2% gain in construction jobs in August, which adds up to 4400 more jobs. This is exceptionally good for Louisiana when you factor in that construction workers account for almost one third of all jobs lost nationwide.
Baton Rouge ranks third
The capital region has held its own during the recession: it was ranked as having the third best job market in the country, according to Bizjournals.com's employment rankings.
Louisiana unemployment filings drop
First-time claims for unemployment dropped to 4,519 for the week ending Saturday, October 2. That's down from the 4,767 claims that were reported for the week ending Sept. 19, says the Louisiana Workforce Commission. | |
