Court and Alex sharing the gospel in the slums of Mindanao Island, the Philippines
After three weeks in China, I flew to Mindanao, Philippines for a week with Alex and his ministry. Mindanao is plagued with Islamic terrorism from Abu Sayab, a terrorist group with ties to al-Qaeda. This Islamic terrorism has frightened away potential investors from the island, and there are few jobs and much poverty. These beautiful people work hard at menial tasks to feed their families.
After a meeting sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, above, we take time for a photo. These beautiful people live in the poorest conditions in shanties along the sewer canals and among the tidal flats.
These precious people's
homes are built over the tidal flats, and at high tide, the water and
sewerage often covers the floors of their homes. Each day, we held meetings
in these areas to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Word of God
to encourage these dear people. Fires often sweep through these
shantytowns destroying their homes which are built of flimsy
wood and bamboo. I had to be very careful walking down planks leading
from one shanty to the other in the tidal areas. The odor from the
sewerage is at first overwhelming but soon you adjust to it. The terrible sewage conditions, and mosquitos in these areas leads to
much disease and suffering, especially among the children.
Alex (above left) took me to see an area which had recently been flooded, destroying the wood/bamboo homes of thousands of people. Above, Brother Boyet, his wife, and son, stand in front of their relocated and rebuilt home, one of many which some of you helped to rebuild after the flood. (They are waving with gratitude) If you look closely, you can see that Boyet's left arm is paralyzed from a stroke. He also walks with the aid of a crutch, yet he and his wife work hard every day making cleaning pads from rags for resale. They make about $1 per day from this work. The Lord's people also provided two goats and a pig for them to raise and market. They faithfully attend Jesus our King Fellowship which Alex pastors, along with several hundred brethren from the poorest neighborhoods I have ever seen.

The widow above is a believer and faithfully attends Jesus our King Church. She cares for an acre of crops behind her "home" in exchange for the right to live in this shed. We could build her a much more secure and comfortable home for just $500. Please pray about helping this dear widow who has placed her hope in the Lord.
Thank you so much for praying for these dear saints who suffer greatly from the devastated economy of their country. The religions of Islam and Catholicism have crippled their nation. Your prayers, love, and much needed help are bringing proof of the love of God, exposing the lies of Satan, and bringing salvation through Jesus Christ to these precious people.
