Greetings!
As you read this email I will be traveling with Max Wilson to the Philippines and China. Max will be with me for two weeks and then he will
be returning home. Please keep us, and our wives, in your prayers during this time. Max is a
dear brother, teacher, hymn writer, and guitarist. We have been friends for years.
I will be taking my violin, and Max his guitar, and we will be ministering in music and word, in the love of Jesus Christ. We have been asked to come as "fathers in Jesus
Christ." This is a great honor and a great responsibility. Please
keep us in your prayers until my return on October 2.

Sandy and I earnestly thank each of you for your
love, and prayers; and when it is possible, for your financial support to help our family in Jesus
Christ in the Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, and Communist nations. We also thank those who were able to help with the expense of our move to Bristol, Virginia.
We have been so pressed with our move and my preparations to leave for China
and the Philippines that we have not been able to respond personally to each
one of you. Please know that we are deeply grateful for each one of you. Apart
from your love and help, we could not continue to help our brethren around the
world.
We do want to assure you that we make every effort to minimize our personal
liability to the ministry. This is our reasonable duty, and should be the
pattern of every Christian leader in this prosperous nation.
Last year, because of the help of so many of you, we were able to forward
$438,000 in direct aid to our brethren for food, clothing, shelter, and medical
care. The total salary that Sandy and I received, combined, was $25,000. We have
never taken more than this amount in salary since we began the ministry in
1986. We do not say this to boast, but rather to assure those of you who give;
and be an encouragement that we all would endeavor to live a reasonable lifestyle
trying the best we can not to get caught up in the materialism and excesses of
our time. This is a battle for all of us, (including me and Sandy) and we have
all heard the popular theologies today that encourage lavish life styles for
Christians.
When Christians have been blessed by hard work and productive lives, I do not
believe God desires to withhold the fruit of the labor of their lives. And
many of these materially blessed Christians give very generously to the Kingdom of
God.
But we are living in a time of terrible suffering in the Body of Christ in
other nations, and too many of the shepherds of American churches have failed
to set an example of the manner in which our Lord would have us live in "such a time as this." Esther 4:13-16 And most shepherds have failed to properly inform their
flocks of the great sufferings of our brethren, and have failed to teach the clear commands
and teachings of the New Covenant for us to "lay down our lives
for our brethren" by helping them. 1 John 3:16-19
This is a serious flaw in our theology in the area of
giving. It is very serious. For a complete teaching on New Covenant giving and
the clear responsibility we have "for
such a time as this" go to

"God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised."
