Titus 2:11-14
11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope-the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

As we are continuing to move through the season of Advent and quickly approaching December 25th, it seems as if we can't get it all done fast enough. I personally look forward to the winter break from school, spending time with family and friends, and of course the presents. With all of the wonderful events and traditions that go along with the coming of Christmas, it can really become a challenge to step back and remember why we're having all of this celebration in the first place.

Titus reminds us in the passage that greatest gift we could receive, God's grace, was given to us so that we might be saved. Although we usually think of Jesus giving himself up with his crucifixion, imagine the humility it must have taken for him to just come to earth and step down from his position in heaven. He gave up his heavenly body and took on the physical limitations of being human such as pain, suffering, and temptation. He did this all because he wanted his children to be made pure. During the season of Advent, I think that we should all strive to enjoy the wonderful parts of this time of year, but still remember the greatest gift that we have already received.
