Psalm 122
1 I rejoiced with those who said to me,
"Let us go to the house of the LORD."
2 Our feet are standing
   in your gates, Jerusalem.

3 Jerusalem is built like a city
   that is closely compacted together.
4 That is where the tribes go up-
   the tribes of the LORD-
to praise the name of the LORD
according to the statute given to Israel.
5 There stand the thrones for judgment,
the thrones of the house of David.

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
"May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls
   and security within your citadels."
8 For the sake of my family and friends,
I will say, "Peace be within you."
9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God,
   I will seek your prosperity.

The Advent Journey

This Psalm is a song sung by pilgrims on their way to the holy City of Jerusalem. The pilgrims anticipate the praising of God within the city walls with all the other pilgrims on the journey. Jerusalem is a place for praise, security and peace. This is where the pilgrims find the house of the Lord.

We are pilgrims this Advent season. Pilgrims to the coming of Christ. Pilgrims on a journey to find the peace and security of our Lord. Pilgrims to find quiet and the true meaning in the hustle and bustle of the season. Pilgrims to praise God.

Let us journey with and support one another in this Advent season. Make the journey of Advent the goal, not just the means to the end. Look for ways to praise God in all you do.
Prayer: "May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels. For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, 'Peace be within you.' For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity." Amen!
