Check the exterior, doors and windows.  Inspect the exterior for crevice cracks and exposed entry points and seal them.  Use weatherstripping around the doors and caulk the windows.  Install storm windows.

Make sure the roof is in good condition.  Check the flashing to make sure water can not enter home.  Replace worn roof shingles.
