Bo's Kitchen
Brown Sugar and Pineapple Glazed Ham
Ingredients
1 (6 pound) Fully-cooked, bone-in ham
1 Fresh pineapple
2 (6 ounce) Cans pineapple juice
1 Cup brown sugar
Directions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Place the ham, cut side down, into a roasting pan.
- Cut the skin off the pineapple with a sharp knife and cut out any brown spots of skin left behind. Slice the pineapple into 1/2-inch slices and cut the cores out of the slices. Pin the slices onto the ham with toothpicks.
- Bake ham in the preheated oven until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the ham reads 140 degrees F (60 degrees C), 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
- While the ham is baking, mix the pineapple juice and brown sugar in a microwave-safe ceramic or glass bowl and microwave on medium power until the glaze is boiling and slightly thickened. Work carefully because the glaze will be sticky and very hot.
- Pour about half the glaze evenly over the ham and pineapple about 1 hour before the end of baking; pour the rest over the ham about 30 minutes before the end of baking.

The Ford Story
Have you ever wondered why something was designed or built a certain way? Why, for example, were cars built with running boards in the early years, then they all but disappeared by the late forties? Sometimes styling has something to do with it, and other times it's advancements in technology. But certain basic automotive layout and design had to start somewhere. This brings me to an interesting fact I just learned the other day. As I have mentioned in prior Ford Stories, up until the introduction of the Model T, all vehicles were assembled by hand. And every single one built in the United States was built as a right hand drive. When Ford designed the Model T, they put the steering column and pedals on the left side. Ford began mass producing the Model T in 1908, and the production figures dwarfed all the other manufacturers. So to keep up with Ford, over time the other manufacturers converted their vehicles to left hand drive as well. So among all the other innovations the Model T is famous for, it set the industry standard for left hand drive for American made vehicles. Think about it. If Henry Ford had decided to follow the current trend of right hand drive when the Model T was designed, we all would be driving on the other side of the road like they do in England .
Until next time, Mark |

Bo's Green Tip
Download Your Software
Instead of shopping for software at the store, simply download what you need directly from those clever folks on the Internets. You'll save resources, as well as time and fuel.
CDs are made out of nonrenewable petroleum products, and are difficult to recycle. They are placed in plastic jewel cases, stuffed into boxes with manuals, and wrapped in more plastic. Around the world, more than a billion unwanted computer disks are tossed out each year, reports ElectronicsRecycling.org. Millions of packaging boxes are also cast off.
So purchase and download software from the Internet. You won't have to drive, the manufacturers won't have to ship to the stores, and you can relax.
