Spain-based engineering firm SENER and the University of Malaga, a city located in the southern region of Andalucia, have developed the first Spanish robotic surgery assistant. The robot, designed specifically for minimally invasive surgery, was used with success in a routine laparoscopic operation last July, at the University Hospital Virgen de la Victoria in Malaga. Rovi to Manufacture Influenza VaccineRovi Pharmaceuticals will be Spain's first firm to develop and commercialize a vaccine against the new strain of influenza known as A Flu or N1/H1 virus. Iberdrola Renewables to Invest $6 Billion in U.S. Projects
Renewable energy international leader, Iberdrola Renewables plans to invest $6 billion in the U.S. now through 2013. Company chairman, Ignacio Sanchez, described their decision as an effort to strengthen their position in the country in a moment when the government is effectively supporting the industry. Talgo Awarded High Speed Contract in Wisconsin
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle, who visited Spain's rail network last February, announced in July the Wisconsin government's decision to purchase two 14-car Talgo trainsets with a budget of $47.5 million. Cintra to Build and Operate Texas Highway
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently launched a public-private partnership with a consortium led by Spain-based infrastructure constructor and operator, Cintra, and financial services firm, JPMorgan Chase. Abengoa's NRS to Build Desalination Plant in Texas NRS Consulting Engineers, part of Abengoa's environmental services subsidiary, Befesa Agua is developing a sea water desalination plant for the Texas government. The plant, located in South Padre Island, will be the first desalination plant facility in the state to draw water from the Gulf of Mexico.
