Michelle Pate

M Pate"My commitment to Parenting by Connection grew as I saw that, no matter how challenging my daughter's behavior was, if I focused on connecting with her, we came through the situation happy. On the flip side, when I moved toward reasoning or threats, our relationship became one big power struggle!"

Michelle Pate is a mother, writer and Parenting by Connection Instructor living in beautiful Bend, Oregon. She believes even when we feel the most baffled and clueless, there is an answer within us. Often we simply need a supportive listener to help us clear the unhelpful thoughts and past conditioning that make parenting difficult.

As a former preschool teacher and ESL instructor Michelle understands the unique challenge of caring for a group of children. She is excited to be introducing Parenting by Connection to parents and teachers locally through the Preschool Partners Program. She also loves reaching out to those without local resources through her writing, on-line discussion groups, her Facebook page and as blog editor for the Super-protective Factor.

What's the Latest Research on Playing with Our Kids?

We would like to share a few minutes from our latest Instructor Certification Training class on Play with you. We looked at the latest research on play and how it relates to the tool we call Playlistening. "Parents should consciously and regularly create distinct play periods during which the child has the upper hand in the play he has chosen.  Parents should look for ways to play that let the child laugh for extended periods of time while exploring the more powerful role.Watch the video clip

Helping My Daughter Sleep on Her Own

"My habit had been to lay down with my five year old daughter at bedtime until she was asleep, which often took half an hour or more.  She would fall asleep fairly easily when others put her to bed, reading books with the light on until she fell asleep.  I was ready to make a shift in this pattern, but didn't want to use that approach."  Full blog post
