No Matter How Great the Loss,
It's Still About Attitude

No matter how rich, or how famous, no one is immune from losses.  However, like they say,  it's not what happens in life that makes or breaks you, it's how you accept it.

In other words, it's all about your attitude.

Richard Branson, the owner of CEO of Virgin Group, which includes 400 companies, just lost his $70 million private island home in the British Virgin Islands.  Lightening from the Tropical Storm, Irene struck the house before dawn.  Burned it to the ground.

Most people would say they have no sympathy for someone like Branson who has a net worth of 4.2 billion.  He can easily rebuild.

But, it's not about feeling sorry for his losses of thousands of pictures and his journals, it's about his attitude.   He was thankful his 90-year-old mother was rescued by actress Kate Winslet.  She was visiting the island with her children.

Branson gained his fortune trying to fulfill a need, helping young people to have a  voice during the time they were discounted.  His focus was not about getting money back then.  It was about using his creativity to find an outlet for their voices, so he started a magazine and a record company all before he was 25.

Still not impressed?  Consider this, he was a dyslexic, high school drop out.

You may still be thinking, that you too can have a good attitude when money is pouring in.  But look behind his fortune to his attitude.

When he started Virgin Airlines, he said this:

"My interest in life comes from setting myself huge, apparently unachievable challenges, and trying to rise above them, from the perspective of wanting to live life to the fullest.  I felt that I had to attempt it."

So you see when most people say, "Give me the money and I'll have a good attitude," Branson's philosophy is the opposite.     Have a good attitude, don't give up, take failures as a learning experience, and you will attract your good, despite the economy or any other obstacle.

And what does he say about his home reduced to ashes?
"We will rebuild the house as soon as we can," Branson vowed. "There's a lot of damage but we'll create something even more special out of the ruins."
