Worried About America's Debt Ceiling?
Try This!
So, we are being told that America's Debt Ceiling is teetering on the edge. Everyone is worrying over the government defaulting on loans.
We have the Democrats, the Republicans, and the Tea Party all vying for power saying their way is best.
And, with this one great big power struggle going on, we are experiencing the mass consciousness of fear from Wall Street to the retirement homes in Iowa.
So how do you deal personally with this epidemic of fear, which is like the threat of a huge hurricane or tsunami that is going to drown or blow us all away?
You can't just rationalize on this to find inner peace. The mind is a wonderful tool, but it's function is to discern, extract and separate one thing from another. What good will that do you if you are not in the Senate or Congress trying to figure this thing out? Us regular citizens are all sitting on the sidelines hoping for the best.
It's almost like being in the hospital waiting room, anxiously awaiting word about your loved one undergoing a life-threatening surgery. The anxiety can be nerve wracking.
You may say, "What choice do I have?" "I'm scared how it's going to affect me."
Here's the Thing: Worrying Does Not Help, or Change Anything.
Worrying only makes things worse, and it physically takes a toll on you from rising blood pressure to high cholesterol. You have no control over Washington's talks, arguments, or votes concerning the Debt Ceiling.
However, you do have control over your feelings. You don't have to suffer despite how bad things may appear.
Try this:
The practice of Mindfulness has worked for millions of people around the world and has been passed down for 2,500 years.
Try this: Notice what sensations and thoughts that are associated with fear in your body. Do this without analyzing, criticizing or judging what you are feeling. Allow fear to come up. Suppressing fear only makes it stronger.
When you simply observe how fear feels in your body, it automatically dissolves.
This is living Mindfully, which acts like a laser to dissolve fear and other toxic emotions.
Now it may seem scary and overwhelming at first, but allow yourself baby steps, and ease up to being aware of the sensations of fear and worry in your body. Just notice how they feel inside. Hard? Soft? Stabbing? Pressure? Sharp? Heavy? Moving? Does it have a color?
For some people, like myself, I have to sometimes mentally dive into the fear sensation. This quickly breaks it up. I don't want to play around with this emotion.
Another great way is just to surrender to the feeling, allowing it to wash over you like a storm, or a gentle rain. Remember, you are the mountain and the weather of fear and worry is blowing past you. You are not surrendering to give up. You simply are allowing fear and worry to come up so they can leave.
No matter which way you choose, make sure it's comfortable for you. Buddha said not to believe anyone, check for yourself.
Allow Fear to Leave
Why is it especially important to allow fear to leave when you may be worrying about your finances? Because you cannot think straight in fear. Many people make wrong financial decisions out of anxiety and fail. You need a clear mind, and fear only works to materialize as your worse nightmares.
"For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me."
Job's words in Job 3:25, King James Bible
Stay Awake
Sometimes we don't know we have been fearful until we are drowning in anxiety.
Stay awake. Notice how you feel when other people talk about the Debt Ceiling, including co-workers, family members and especially in the media.
When you are observing what is going on inside of you, hearing about the Debt Ceiling, you may clutch and tighten up inside. Be your own scientist. Just observe. When you notice these emotions (non-judgmentally), the fear and worry knots dissolve.
But, This is My Future Those Politicians Are Playing With!
When you are observing what is going inside of you, you become the witness. This is the highest state of spiritual consciousness. You are aligning yourself with your Higher Power. You will begin to feel that whatever happens next week, it will be for your highest good.
And, even if you are affected, you will find by living Mindfully, you will have total clarity of what to do or not to do. You will be following your inner deep wisdom called intuition. If you follow your intuition, which is never wrong, you will also find a way around or out of any challenge you may face. Intuition is God's voice.
Freedom in the Breath
To help keep your mind free and calm, practice following your breath even while you are reading this email, or stopping at a red light, or doing other routine things, like waiting for your computer to turn on? Follow your breath.
Observing your breath calms the mind.
Place your hands on your stomach. Notice it rises and falls when you breathe. When you inhale, say to yourself, "Rising." When you exhale, say to yourself "falling." Be careful not to try to control the breath. Just watch like it like your emotions.
Keep Practicing Mindful Awareness Adding This:
You can put your attention inside when you are fearful, and say softly to yourself "fear," "fear", "fear." Watch the feeling dissolve.
Sometimes, when the fear is too deep, it may not leave easily. Again don't beat yourself up or flee from the feeling. Be careful not to drink, eat, shop, or try to gamble it away. It will just go into deeper hiding, and become stronger. The key is to keep practicing Mindfulness.
Don't give up
When you place your awareness on the sensations of fear and worry you can also send love to these emotions.
Love and fear cannot occupy the same place.
Love, Light and Blessings,
