I have written about the Public Health Security and Bio-terrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 (The Bio-terrorism Act) before but recent events again highlight the need for traceability.

The Act requires that specific production data be available to regulators within 24 hours of a request. Over 5,500 companies purchased peanut products from the company involved with this recall. Imagine the complexity of pulling records on this scale.

A well planned traceability system could pull the data in minutes. The labor savings in a major recall situation could easily pay for the system. A traceability system can also:

I have spent the past 14 years working with controls or technology in one way or another. My controls experience ranges from paint to waste water to pharmaceuticals. I spent a few years as a consultant for a software company, traveling about 50 weeks a year. After that I developed testing and tracking systems for an electrics manufacturer before Patti Engineering turned me to the sales side.

I currently live in Royal Oak, MI with my wife and 3 year old son. I enjoy cooking and reading and I try play engineer in my free time since I don't get to do it at work anymore. And you might have guessed I love gadgets whether electronic or mechanical.
