"PARENTING WITH SENSE AND SENSIBILITY"

November 2-8, 2011
Editor's Note

My wife was one of the great Halloween costume creators (and wearers) of her era, but in the last decade she's transferred a lot of that creativity onto our children, naturally. This year our 7-year-old son resisted. He plays lots of baseball so we came up with the idea of a zombie baseball player. Adam resisted. Rebecca made a wonderfully bloodied and mucked up uniform. Adam resisted. She gave him deathly makeup. Adam resisted. Finally, he started crying and storming around, shouting for all to hear: "I don't want to be zombie Adam! I wanted to be normal Adam!" You know what? It worked! Normal Adam had a very happy Halloween.
