 After a long, courageous fight our LuciaGirl has gotten her wings
and is at peace.
Her faith never waivered.
Quote: " As soon as I'm one of God's angels, I'll be completely healed ."
Lucia means light
and she will be the
light that guides
us to find a cure.
Yes, we need money but we definitely need PASSION!
Our main goal is to get Congress, the FDA and NIH to focus the dollars on innovative, never-been-tried-before research not mere bandaid fixes that cure nothing. | |

Greetings!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the support, compassion and generosity. Each and every kind word and gesture has helped us so much.
The only way we've found to cope with such grief is one day at a time (some days it's one hour at a time) but right when it seems intolerable, here comes someone from Lucia's posse.
Be it BAE, Premier Martial Arts, PS 158 or The Millrock. Whether it's a chance run, quick phone call, or post traumatic stress therapy (wink at George) it always helps.
Thank you to the Work Ladies (that includes you, Russell, sorry) for patiently waiting for me to come out of my funk. Time for a trip to Georgia, I think. I've waited long enough for Sister Marsha to move back to New York.

We almost choked on all the paperwork but I think there's light at the end of the tunnel:
A. LGPOF has the New York State Dept of Education's seal of approval.
(Why did we need it? Don't know, but this is one of those times when you just shut up and do what you're told.)
B. NYS Incorporation also approved.
(Snail mail & red tape doesn't begin to describe it, but we got through it.)
C. We then were given the foundation's tax id number from US IRS. (We made sure to be very nice and polite.)
D. All these steps allows us to file LGPOF's NYS 501(3)b application.
(This is the MacDaddy of all applications! Felt like 2 million pages long and full of trick questions. Obviously, they assume you're criminal...
I guess it takes one to know one. Oh, don't get me started!)

Now it's plain common cents (wink, wink) that in this economy, we should make every penny count so...we're going to count up all the change you've got lying around gathering dust and to make it even more fun, we are doing a piggy bank art exhibit too!
* We give you a piggy bank to decorate any way you want...
* You stuff it with those dusty pennies, nickels,dimes etc...
* When it's full return it to us (we'll pick up from NYC)...
* Join us for a great Piggy Bank Art Display at a later date!
Most likely Decemer 13th - it's St. Lucia Day, it's a real holiday, ask any Swedish folks you know.

November 1st is Lucia's birthday.
(All Saints Day, perfect day for her to be born).
Miss Ariella "Twinkle Toes" Goldberg from Ballet Academy East is hosting a get together in her honor.
All Lucia Lovers are welcome!
When: November 1st
Time: 7pm
Where: Uptown Lounge. 1576 3rd Ave (88th Street) has graciously offered the space. (No cover charge)
Note: We are mandated to have our first organizational meeting soon, so I was wondering if enough board members and supporting volunteers come, we could take care of that as well.

Funds and Research Team (F.A.R.T.) *
Raise funds for innovative, results-oriented oncology
research and for financial assistance to families in need.
There is a Junior F.A.R.Team with fun, kid friendly events and an Adult F.A.R.Team.
Parents of Oncology Patients (P.O.O.P.)*
Informational, emotional and financial support
for families struck by this horrid tragedy.
Unify and rally to raise public and political awareness that the status quo in pediatric cancer care is unacceptable especially since status quo means our children are dying.
Advancement of Research Scientific Exchange (A.R.S.E) *
Scientific Task Force will review potential grant candidates and meet Think Tank style to highlight crucial questions that still need answers in order to insure the new research leads to development of effective treatments and/or cancer cures.
* Lucia says she has a princess side and a tomboy side.
The tomboy side is fond of anything with wheels and burp & fart humor. Sooo... like I said, we do this in her honor.
