Arts Integration Across the High School Curriculum: An Introduction to Arts Integration
Free for teachers in SC GEAR UP schools!

Teachers from the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities collaborate on this course in which examples from Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science classrooms are used to present an introduction to arts integration. The course content progresses from a brief history of arts integration and its rationale through an overview of unique languages of the five areas of the arts (Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Music and the Visual Arts). Included are suggested resources teachers can use to integrate these five art areas into their classroom from initial arts integration to the fully-infused curriculum. The course concludes with teaching strategies for meaningful integration and assessment.

SUPERSTAR of DANCE
 Stas.1
Many of you have seen the previews by now, but here's a terrific reason to put NBC's new dance-themed reality competition series Superstars of Dance on your must-watch list come January.

Governor's School Dance Department chair, award-winning ballet dancer and instructor Stanislav Issaev was invited to be the head coach for the Russian team! He has been in Los Angeles for filming since Dec. 10 and as luck has it, he is still there.

The series, from American Idol creator Simon Fuller and former Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, will pit skilled dancers of various genres from different countries against each other. The eight countries participatiing are Ireland, India, USA, Argentina, China, Russia, South Africa and Australia.  Each team will be comprised of two soloists, one duo and one larger group.

Lythgoe's global dance competition brings together leading professionals from eight nations for judging by a panel of judges from around the world. Co-hosts are Susie Castillo ("House of Payne") and Michael Flatley ("Lord of the Dance"), who Lythgoe hails as "the world's best-known dancer."

Stas.2
Superstars of Dance premieres
Sunday, January 4 at 9pm.
Following its debut, the show will air two-hour episodes in its regular slot Mondays at 8pm  beginning Jan. 5.  The finale is scheduled to air Jan. 26 at 8pm.

According to the producers who requested Stas's coaching expertise, "It will be an honor and privilege to have someone of such high professional caliber involved." (The images above are of Stas during the height of his professional dancing career in Russia.)
