Please join us for the unveiling of the Class of 2008's gift to the Governor's School campus!
Thursday, December 18 at 5:00 pm outside the Lipscomb Gallery

Each year, the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities' senior class gives a gift to the campus.
For their gift, the Class of 2008 commissioned a sculpture by faculty artist and Visual Arts department chair Joe Thompson.

"Archangel #4 (After Ariel)" is a larger-than-life-sized, abstracted figurative steel sculpture, fabricated from steel rod and several hundred pounds of nuts, bolts and steel objects. It is the fourth in Thompson's Arch Angel series.

This monumental gift will be unveiled during the school's annual Alumni Holiday Gathering this Thursday, December 18th at 5:00 pm outside the Lipscomb Gallery on the Governor's School campus.

A message from the Class of 2008:

"During our senior year, the Class of 2008 vowed to make noticeable changes around the school, for students and faculty alike. In that spirit, we chose to commission a sculpture by Visual Arts department chair, Joe Thompson. We carefully considered the message this gift sends to future classes. Specifically, this sculpture represents a permanent testament to the special connection between the teachers and students here, a bond every student experiences. Our faculty, both arts and academic, puts in long hours, underscoring the faith they have in our work and our future. As the first piece of faculty art in the school's permanent collection, this sculpture will stand as a constant reminder of why students decide to make the S.C. Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities their home."
