Pushing
the Easy Button I have an Easy Button on my desk from Staples Office Supplies. Given as a joke gift to help me make difficult decisions, it has been a source of smiles at different times throughout my work weeks as I'm dealing with challenging choices. Sunday in worship we talked about making decisions in line with God's will, and not arrogantly our own. We focused on James 4:13-17 and how it is so easy for us to play the role of God in our life. Sometimes I wish I had an Easy Button that would impact my spiritual life. Wouldn't it be nice if you could move to spiritual maturity with the push of a button? It is certainly more challenging than that. It takes levels of commitment, devotion, and discipline that make it hard. Going through the motions of our faith can be easy, but not meaningful. As we watch the Olympics and see world class athletes that have trained years for seconds of competition, we know there is no Easy Button for their road to success. The apostle Paul laid it out for us in 1 Corinthians 9:24: "Run in such a way as to get the prize." As you pursue a life that is Christ-centered, may you choose to not opt for the easy, but the way that is extraordinarily life-changing! Together in the Cause, Pastor Tom De Vries
