Greetings!

Gala Success!
Before put ting a howl in your Halloween Weekend, we'll start by thanking everyone who assisted, organized, advertised, and attended last week's 8th Annual Gala in benefit of Crisis Nursery. Because of each and every one of you, the Gala was a smashing success!  All who braved the elements on a rather grisly evening and with the opening game of the World Series playing were well rewarded with a bountiful night of wine, comaraderie and the satisfaction of supporting a worthy cause. Again, thank you all.

Pierre Ferrand Cognac Seminar
If you don't read any further, please take note of the Pierre Ferrand Cognac Seminar scheduled for next Thursday, November 3rd from 7 - 9pm at Sun Singer. Attendees will have the privilege of tasting from a very rare and limited selection of cognacs some aged for 30 to 70 years!  As the weather chills, the season is right for cognac and with the holidays closing in, it's time to be thinking of those luxuries (or necessities) that good cheer demands! Seating for the seminar, like good cognac, is limited. Make your reservations today by calling Sun Singer 351-1115.

NEW MOON

WEREWOLF WINES

What does your favorite Werewolf drink?

Stories of werewolves can be found as far back as history has been written. With some of the earliest accounts of werewolves coming from Romanian and Greek sources. Ovid, in the Metamophoses, told of King Lycaeon. Who was visited by passing gods. The king decided to test them, to see if they were real gods, and served human flesh in one of the many dishes served at a banquet in their honor. Upon discovering the tainted dish, the gods were furious (cannibalism was frowned upon in that part of the world). They changed King Lycaeon into a werewolf - since he obviously liked human flesh, the wolf form would be a more acceptable form to take part in such vile activity.

For a howling good time, even without a full moon, this wine will put hair on your palms!

WEREWOLF Pinot Grigio 2009

This 100% Pinot Grigio is green with light pink hues. The nose has subtle aromas of apple, pear and grapefruit. On the palate it is crisp and fresh, fruit driven with some notes of apple. Surprisingly effervescent. Balanced acidity in this wine which makes it an everyday gem.

WEREWOLF Merlot 2008

Traditional vinification with stainless steel maceration. Maturation and ageing of 80% of the wine is in stainless steel while the remaining 20% is in Transylvanian oak barriques.

WEREWOLF Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Aged in Transylvanian oak, this frightfully good 100% Cabernet is dark red in color, with aromas of bell pepper and spice, screaming with fruit flavors and a finish to die for!

BE SURE YOU WANT TO TASTE IT!

WEREWOLF BEER

Perfect for the Halloween weekend. You can enjoy these two lagers straight from the Rinkuskiai Brewery in Lithuania.

Werewolf  Euro Pale Lager 5.2% ABV

Simple amber that is crystal-clear and bright. The eggshell colored cap looks pretty good too. Nice chewy texture, the persistence and the amount of lace. Smell of untoasted grain, sweet malt with light floral hops. Sweet malt flavor, touch of candy sweetness, light bitterness.

Werewolf  Euro Dark Lager 8.2% ABV

Pours with a tall lingering froth. Beautiful caramel, copper color. Wispy beige head.  Complex smell. Aromas of sweet malts, spicy hops, wet hay, plum, brown sugar. Taste is complex too. Flavor of rich sweet malts,  caramel. Lots of toffee.  Full nectar with good carbonation. Hides the alcohol very well. A mild malty sweetness ensues as the werewolf attacks with its high abv. Nice chewy texture. Overall it has an earthy presence and

finishes dry bittered nicely.

These beers come packaged in 500ml single bottles. Regularly $2.49, today through Halloween $1.99!!  Add a howl to your Halloween Party!

Masterson's Straight Rye Whiskey

A carefully crafted panorama of grassy dry grain, moist earth and burlap sacks, along with zingy pepper, blossoming floral vanilla, fragrant leather and tobacco leaves. Spicy Rye. ★★★★★

Seeking to capture a niche in the growing spirits market, 35 Maple, a division of The Other Guys, has introduced an upscale straight rye whiskey called Masterson's. The strategy? On-premise placements and sales to high-end wine and bottle shops. Let's pull back some of the layers here. The Other Guys own 35 Maple. The owners of The Other Guys are members of the Sebastiani family. The Sebastianis have a long history as wine makers in the Sonoma Valley. How long? A mere 110 years.  read more >>>

Ayala Brut Majeur Champagne

After a long absence in the US, Ayala Champagnes have returned! The Brut Majeur is a low dosage wine thatbalances the fullness and intensity of the pinot noir with chardonnay's finesse and pinot meunier's aromatics and fresh fruit. Now in the ownership of the Bollinger Champagne House comes Ayala Brut Majeur Champagne. Pale gold in colour with a fine mousse. This wine is rich and aromatic on the nose. On the palate, it is well balanced and shows great finesse and complexity. Scrumptious!

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A beautifully balanced non-vintage, in the lighter style that is Ayala's hallmark. It is fresh, but shows a good amount of blend with older wines to give weight and complexity. The green fruit flavors are well balanced with secondary aromas of almonds, green berries and lively, but not dominant acidity." (12/1/2007)

90 points Wine Spectator: "A creamy, opulent style, offering honey, apple tart and grapefruit notes, with hints of roasted nut and coffee. This has the structure to stay persistent and fresh, with a crisp, chalky finish. Drink now." (11/10)   Retail: $42.99
