The Brockton 21st Century Corporation E-Newsletter
May 2012

Dear ,

April showers...bring more May showers! But May is also bringing some great news and The Brockton 21st Century is thrilled to be part of it!

Capstone Communities' principal Jason Korb was awarded funding to redevelop 124 Montello Street which has been vacant for more than a decade. This transit-oriented development project will take the vacant downtown location and preserve its historic value, creating 25 new affordable residential apartments, the Station Lofts. Congratulations to Jason Korb and the City of Brockton! See below for the complete story.

Supplementing this good news are the results of our Downtown Survey sent out to employers, employees and visitors of Brockton.  Over 800 responses came in! We are listening to what everyone has to say and will work in partnership with Mayor Linda M. Balzotti, the Ward Councilors and the DBA to continue to rebuild and revive Downtown Brockton!  Click here to view the results.

Also, our staff recently worked to compile the 2012 Top Employers List.  We salute these employers and would like to extend our appreciation to each of them for their contribution to and investment in the City of Brockton. If your company can be added to this list, please contact us.

Very truly yours,

Mary Waldron,
Executive Director
The Station Lofts are Coming to Brockton!

On Wednesday, May 9, the Patrick-Murray Administration announced that developer, Capstone Communities is being awarded $1.5 million in DHCD housing subsidies and $495,348 in federal and state low-income housing tax credits for the development of the Station Lofts in downtown Brockton. The project will create 25 units of affordable and market rate housing and is also expected to generate 46 jobs.

"This funding is great news for Brockton's ongoing revitalization efforts," said Mayor Linda M. Balzotti. "Redevelopment is a collaborative effort, and this project has been a textbook example of successful partnership."

"The development of Brockton's downtown area has long been a goal of the City and our legislative delegation, and I am pleased to see this project advance. I am confident that the Station Lofts will be a great step in the right direction," added Senator Tom Kennedy.

Capstone Communities, a Cambridge-based developer and manager of mixed income, affordable and historic apartment communities, is led by principal Jason Korb. We are confident in Korb and optimistic that this investment in affordable housing will generate jobs, grow local businesses and strengthen Brockton.
