A Message from Principal Cori McKenzie
I hope that your Thanksgiving holiday was wonderful and that you are now settling into the holiday spirit as we head for the next round!
Before our Thanksgiving break, we were experiencing an alarming number of children coming late to school. Twenty-five children or more were lining up each morning to receive tardy slips. Because of this, classes were not able to settle down and begin the day. Most importantly, valuable instructional time was lost. This is clearly unacceptable for all.
I spoke with all the children at our "Caught Being Good" assembly about this problem and announced that we will be implementing a new incentive for children to be on time. Beginning on Wednesday, November 30th, children who come to school late will use their morning recess reflecting on how they can get to school on time and why it is important. They will be writing rather than having playtime. We reminded students again this morning at Monday Morning Meeting.
The only excused tardy is a medical/ dental / special appointment or a family emergency. In these cases, parents are asked to phone the attendance line by 8:15 AM.
I would like to report that in the past from just the announcement, tardies dropped dramatically! That not only indicates that our kids are good listeners, but that they can accomplish this responsibility. I am very proud of their efforts and hope it will continue.
Warmest regards,
Cori McKenzie

Girl Scout Troop 33393 from Belmont is helping The Peninsula Humane Society (PHS) this Holiday season, and is asking for your help, too-with a supplies donation to PHS.
Starting Tues Nov 29, Our troop is collecting much-needed supplies, such as gently used blankets, towels, collars, leashes, pet toys (especially large Kongs), Fancy Feast cat food, and several household items-many things which you may no longer need yourself! So please help our troop help local Bay Area pets and wildlife find their forever homes, by donating items to the donation box in front of Central School's Office.
You can find a complete wish list of hoped-for donations on the Girl Scouts' pet donations flyer. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Troop Co-Leader: Traci Psaila at Thank you for your help!

Your Help is Needed on Funding Boy Scout Greg Newton's Eagle Scout Project Benefiting Central Elementary School!
Dear Parents and Guardians of Central Elementary School,
My name is Greg Newton and I was a student at Central from Kindergarten to 5th grade. I really enjoyed my time at Central and wanted to give something back. I am currently a Senior at Carlmont High School and a Boy Scout in Troop 301. To attain the rank of Eagle Scout, I will need to lead a service project benefiting the community in some way. As soon as I learned this I knew I wanted to do a project for Central. I met with Ms. Cori McKenzie to discuss an area of Central that she and Ms. Fong have wanted to see improved for a long time.

DON'T MISS IT!
The next Family Reading Night is THIS Wednesday night at 7pm. in the Central Library!
In other library news...
We had an extra special visitor in the Central Library. Kit Kat the guinea pig came by to say HI to the kids for a day! Kit Kat is a little shy so she stayed in her cage. She is a female and she eats hay. Kit Kat belongs to Andrew Marks, a 5th grader in Mrs. Hanau's class. He stayed with her during recess to answer questions the kids had. You may have noticed your child's library book last week was about guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils or rats. Now you know why!
