Wednesdays are Walking Wednesdays - Walk your Child to School! Show your Central Spirit by wearing blue on Fridays! |
November 2011
Dear Parents,
As you know, this week is our Parent/Teacher Conference week. This means having minimum days on Tuesday-Friday of this week (November 15-18th) and minimum days on Monday-Wednesday of next week (November 21-23rd). Each year this present a traffic juggernaut as we dismiss all students, grades 1-5 together each day at 12:20 PM.
In order to help with this process, we ask for your patience and request the following:
1. Please try to carpool and/or walk your student home from school if at all possible.
2. Dismissal on minimum days is 12:20 PM. Please do not come earlier. There are still a number of cars who stubbornly show up way before dismissal, clogging Middle Road and causing traffic and safety problems for all.
3. If you are the first car in line, please pull all the way to the edge of the curve (right past the Principal's parking spot). We will post a sign at the spot. This allows more cars into our parking lot and off Middle Road.
4. Thank you for continuing to use your name placards. They have made a huge difference in speeding up the dismissal process.
For our part, we will be closing Dolphin Park everyday until after dismissal and will make every effort to have all students out on time.
Several parents have reported observing parents texting as they drive away in the morning after drop off. Additionally, a few parents are letting their students walkin the driveway from their parents' parked cars. It is only too easy to imagine the tragedy that could result from these two practices. Please do not let children walk in our driveway at anytime and never text while driving.
We also want to remind everyone to drive slowly as you depart the lot. We've had a few near misses with parents entering the drive as a departing car zipped by.
Thank you to everyone who is complying with the regular arrival and pick-up routines and safety procedures.
We look forward to safe and successful Parent/Teacher conferences!
Warmest Regards,
Principal Cori McKenzie

We're quickly moving into cold and flu season (the weeks after Thanksgiving are always fruitful!), so please know that students must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Also, children are not allowed to bring any medication including cough drops to keep in the classroom. They must be kept in the office in the original packaging and a form needs to be filled out. Really!!
Many parents are bringing forgotten items directly to the classroom after the morning bell (8:25AM) has rung. To keep from interrupting your child's class, please drop these things off in the office.
Remember after the bell rings, ALL parents and visitors MUST check into the office and wear one of our fabulous bright pink badges while on campus. This is for your children's safety and not because we want to annoy you.
Just one more little thing (well, this week!). Unless it is an emergency, please make all afterschool arrangements at home. We have 453 adorable students at Central, and they deserve to have a lovely afternoon. But some days there aren't enough post it notes or time to deliver all of the requests the office receives, and your secretary has a hard time dealing with the guilt of a forgotten message.
Enjoy your week!
Kathie
Your Central School Secretary

Volunteer at the Holiday Craft Workshop
Saturday, December 3rd 2010 10AM-2PM Central's Multi Use Room
Come and help the kids create wonderful handmade gifts this holiday season.
Volunteers are needed to assist craft tables at this extremely popular and fun event! A simple and rewarding job! A Central tradition for over 30 years.
Or, fill out and return this form to your child's teacher, or to the office.
~ AND ~Calling All Bakers The Central Holiday Gift Workshop is coming up on Saturday, December 3rd (see above). And what goes better with crafting than tasty, homemade baked goods? We need bakers (beginners to experts) to donate a variety of treats to our bake sale table. Are you up for it? We need everything from simple chocolate chip cookies and rice krispy treats to your top-secret banana bread (or other family favorite). An online sign-up is being created to streamline the process. Please email Dawn Richards ( dawn.richards@mac.com) if you are interested in helping or have questions. Not a baker? We also need helpers to set-up and do the selling for a 1-2 hour shift (anytime between10am-2pm). And don't forget to stop by the Bake Sale table to pick up some treats to take home! We'll even have small bags and boxes perfect for transporting your yummy purchases.
