We're quickly moving into cold and flu season (the weeks after Thanksgiving are always fruitful!), so please know that students must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Also, children are not allowed to bring any medication including cough drops to keep in the classroom. They must be kept in the office in the original packaging and a form needs to be filled out. Really!!

Many parents are bringing forgotten items directly to the classroom after the morning bell (8:25AM) has rung. To keep from interrupting your child's class, please drop these things off in the office.

Remember after the bell rings, ALL parents and visitors MUST check into the office and wear one of our fabulous bright pink badges while on campus. This is for your children's safety and not because we want to annoy you.

Just one more little thing (well, this week!). Unless it is an emergency, please make all afterschool arrangements at home. We have 453 adorable students at Central, and they deserve to have a lovely afternoon. But some days there aren't enough post it notes or time to deliver all of the requests the office receives, and your secretary has a hard time dealing with the guilt of a forgotten message.

Enjoy your week!

Kathie

Your Central School Secretary

Teacher Appreciation Committee

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers our teachers are being appreciated every month throughout the year.  On a very small budget we provide them with monthly meals and birthday treats.  It's the PTA's way of saying thanks for the hard work and great educations they give our children. In October they had a BBQ lunch with all the trimmings.  They enjoyed pumpkin cupcakes and brownies for October's birthday celebrants.

We are looking forward to another fantastic Teacher Appreciation Week, May 7th-11th.  Teachers and Staff will be showered with many activities and goodies from students and the committee volunteers.

If you want to help out this fun committee please contact Helen Gruener:
or (650) 508-9828

Art-in-Action

 Picasso

Ms. Fong's 4th (and 5th) graders had a great time examining Picasso's cubist techniques, showing a person from multiple viewpoints.  They studied Picasso's 'Weeping Woman' and then used multiple media to create their own interpretations of a Picasso-esque portrait by blending a profile and a frontal view of a face.  First they created the basis for their portrait by making a charcoal transfer.  Then, using oil pastels and tempera paint, they created amazing masterpieces featuring both a profile and frontal view.  Look for them and other Art in Action masterpieces gracing the hallways at Central!

Planning your online holiday shopping?

Don't forget to go through:
http://www.shopforschools.org/schoolforce/shop.php
to earn free money for School-Force!  About 7% of the money you spend at Amazon comes back to School-Force!!

Plan ahead and make meeting your School-Force donation goal easy!

If you start your monthly donation in October, the suggested amount in order to reach the $1200 level is: $133/mo for one child or $267/mo for 2 children. Visit  http://schoolforce.org/donate/ to set up your donation now.

Why $1200 per child?
Where did that number come from?

It's "The Formula for Strong Schools"  If all families donate at the suggested level ($1200 per child by June 30, 2011), we will raise over $3.5 million, an amount that would make our schools look like they did a few years ago: full time libraries, smaller classes in K-3 (20:1), GATE (Gifted and Talented Program), and full-time Reading Specialists.

Some can give more, others need to give less.  Make your child's education a priority in your monthly budget.

November 4, 2011

Dear Staff and Community Members,

At last night's Board meeting an announcement was made regarding the District's direction to find a new superintendent for Belmont Redwood Shores School District. I will continue to serve in the District as Superintendent until June 2012.

It has been a privilege to serve as the Superintendent of the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District since 2006 and to work with such dedicated individuals and great students.  I want to thank you for your support during my tenure. We have addressed many challenges and I want to thank the community and staff for being partners in this process and helping make this a great District for the students of Belmont and Redwood Shores. I am fortunate to have worked with an exceptional group of educators and community members.

Sincerely,

Emerita Orta-Camilleri, Superintendent
