SAFETY WARNING

Yesterday morning (Monday) we received a report from a parent who witnessed a very dangerous near accident near the Crosswalk on Middle Road.

A father dropped off his child and instead of driving forward, suddenly backed into a neighbor's driveway, almost hitting a child coming to school. Fortunately, the little girl was watching and stopped in time. However, as our children walk to school they are assuming that they are safe and often are not paying close attention. It is up to us to be cautious and protective of all of them.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • If you are using the top of Middle Road for drop off, NEVER  allow children to cross anywhere except at the crosswalk.
  • Do not block our neighbors' driveways , even temporarily.
  • Do not  use neighbors' driveways to back in and out. It is disrespectful of their property and creates unsafe conditions.
  • Never make a U turn on Middle Rd. This is not only unsafe, but it is illegal. You will be ticketed.

Thank you for all working together to keep our children safe.

Message From the Principal

Dear Parents,

This year's Central School Halloween Parade will be held on Monday, October 31 at 9:00 AM. Because there will be no time at school to help students get ready, all students K-5, will come to school in costume and all will parade at that time. The students must change out of their costumes after the parade. Please send a change of clothes to school in a bag for your child to change into when the parade is over.

As a reminder, the school dress code applies to Halloween costumes. Students will not be allowed to have weapons or simulated weapons (toys) as part of their costume (i.e. swords, guns, knives, etc.), no roller blades, skateboards, bare midriffs, high heels or short shorts.

Following the parade festivities, students will return to their classrooms and have Halloween themed academics until the regular dismissal time at the end of the day. Regular dismissal for Kindergarten is 12:40, for Grades 1-3, 2:35 and for Grades 4-5, 3:10.

Parents are welcome to come to the parade, and your costumes are optional! We cannot accommodate parents until parade time, so please plan to catch a second cup of coffee after student drop off. There will be additional parking on the playground after 8:40 in a designated area. Please do not park along the driveway that leads to the back playground. It blocks all cars from leaving and is a fire lane in case of an emergency.

When the parade begins (9:00) the gate to the back will be closed. Cars must stay parked after the parade until all children are safely inside.

Please stand behind the "parents" signs to watch the parade. It is important to give the classes enough room to parade.

We are hoping you will join us Monday morning for a Spooktacular parade!

Donate your Halloween Candy in your Elementary School Office Nov 1-4, and win a Trifecta:
$2 per pound to School-Force, Candy for our Troops overseas, and less candy in your home!  Thank you to our fabulous local dentists Urmi Amin, Michael Chang and Nancy Kaher for putting together this program. See the Candy Buy-Back eflyer.

Planning your online holiday shopping?
Don't forget to go through:
to earn free money for School-Force!  About 7% of the money you spend at Amazon comes back to School-Force!!

Plan ahead and make meeting your School-Force donation goal easy!  If you start your monthly donation in October, the suggested amount in order to reach the $1200 level is: $133/mo for one child or $267/mo for 2 children. Visit  http://schoolforce.org/donate/ to set up your donation now.

Why $1200 per child?  Where did that number come from?  It's "The Formula for Strong Schools"  If all families donate at the suggested level ($1200 per child by June 30, 2011), we will raise over $3.5 million, an amount that would make our schools look like they did a few years ago: full time libraries, smaller classes in K-3 (20:1), GATE (Gifted and Talented Program), and full-time Reading Specialists.

Some can give more, others need to give less.  Make your child's education a priority in your monthly budget.
