'Recycle and Win!' contest aims to boost recycling
The City of Roanoke is partnering with Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated to encourage more participation in recycling through a new program called "Recycle and Win!" The city has offered curbside recycling since 1988, and as the service has grown the city has not only reduced the amount of solid waste sent to the landfill, it has also saved on the fees for disposing of this material. The new program, which is scheduled to kick off in October, offers additional incentives for recycling. Read more about it here. |

Groups bring fresh insight to community policing
Community policing has been part of the City of Roanoke's public safety strategy for more than a decade. Now Police Chief Chris Perkins is taking a number of steps to make sure the concept evolves to meet the city's needs.
