SHELTER UPDATE

lauren gaile after

Lauren Gaile has found her forever loving home!

The person who spotted Lauren Gaile in Loyola Grand Villas had only one request to PAWS when she saw the emaciated dog crawling on the streets: please come and have a vet put this dog to sleep to end her suffering.

PAWS had already explained to the caller that the quarantine kennels were full at that time and that it couldn't take in another animal. However, Lady Luck seemed to be smiling on this dog. On the day that Lauren was  brought to the clinic, a quarantine dog finished his vaccination regimen and was moved into the dog runs - leaving a space free for Lauren Gaile!

The shelter vet took one look at Lauren at the clinic and said that the dog seemed to need just a chance to be able to recover from severe malnutrition and dehydration.

He was right.  In just two months of medical care, behavioral rehabilitation, and lots of TLC from our staff and volunteers, Lauren has bounced back to health and has attracted the attention of many shelter visitors with her friendly disposition and her gentle translucent brown eyes.

A kind couple, Vic and Jackie Prudente has passed PAWS'  adoption screening procedures and finally on January 29  2011, Lauren Gaile went home with her new loving family!

Lauren Gaile's chance to a new life would not be possible if not for the help of volunteers and donors.

Greetings!

We are happy to launch this online newsletter to keep you in touch with the latest  in our campaigns, outreach programs and advocacy. You will also get updates on the activities and animal rehabilitation efforts in our shelter.

Lauren Gaile, our featured dog is just one of the 40 dogs and 55 cats rehabilitated and rehomed in the past 7 months.

We may have a few staff and volunteers who help us get by in the caring and rehabilitation of these animals, but still the daily maintenance and medical costs are more than what we can afford.

PAWS is not supported by the government nor any other organization in running its animal shelter which mainly relies on the help of volunteers and donors.

To date we have 210 cats and 49 dogs under our care  who need your help.

Cubao dolphin show fails to amuse animal welfare activists

Dolphin shows are fast becoming a staple family affair. But the intelligent creatures suffer tremendously, prompting dolphin advocates to stage a protest against an ongoing show at the Araneta Center dubbed Angel of the Sea on December 30, 2010.

no to dolphin2For a full 60 seconds, volunteers from the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Earth Island Institute, Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines and Dolphins Love Freedom Movement stand there on the show floor with their protest banners that read: "This is animal cruelty", "Captivity kills!" and "Conservation or Exploitation?"

One of the volunteer-photographers heard someone from the audience whisper: "Is this part of the show?"

Finally, the 'bouncers' received instructions to remove them from the stage area. Protesters paraded the anti-dolphin show banners for as long as they could as they were roughly shoved out of the venue.

Not discouraged, the animal rights activists continued their protest action outside the show areas for over an hour, passing out flyers to passers-by and informing them about the cruelty of dolphin shows.
