Here is our May monthly newsletter, Connections, offering useful tips on communication and cross-cultural connecting, the foundation of our training programmes at Asianways.
This month we'll review how to overcome the challenge of speaking on the spot, when suddenly called upon to deliver an impromptu speech.
I trust that you will find this engaging reading. Your feedback is welcome and much appreciated.
Culturally yours,
Nick French

Do you throw your hands up in despair when asked to speak on the spot?
How often are you plunged into a 'pool of emptiness' when put on the spot in a tight situation? Do throw your hands up in despair and walk away in a state of fear? Or are you able to respond confidently and diplomatically enough to extricate yourself or your company from a difficult situation?
So often when faced with the need to deliver quick verbal responses, our brain becomes a vast desert, void of ideas, leaving us high and dry for words. This usually happens when least expected, during social, business and crisis situations. How well you respond under pressure affects both your image and reputation.
There is a solution!
Improving one's competence and confidence in speaking on the spot is a two step process. First, you must overcome the fear of speaking!
Having cleared your mind of this hindrance, you can concentrate on crafting your speech. Here one needs structure, a framework on which to hang your creative thoughts and ideas.
Suitable structures have three or more elements. These can be related to topics based on time, place, features or scenarios, to name but a few. Once these are established, the creative right side of your brain is free to release thoughts that can get you out of trouble.
I'm running a workshop "Speaking on the Spot" that provides you the tools to become an accomplished on the spot speaker. This will happen on on 19th June at the Knowledge Connection, Suntec City, Singapore.
