Some GOOD News About Area Housing...
The Public Is Invited To Attend the Lincoln/Lancaster County Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial For Lutherans Dedication of a Recently Completed Home in Lincoln's Belmont Neighborhood!
Times are tough economically. There's no doubt about that, even in Lincoln. That hasn't stopped Lincoln / Lancaster County Habitat for Humanity and local members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans from completing construction on a home with a family in urgent need of one. Now it's time to celebrate the home they've helped build!

On December 17th, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., volunteers, Habitat for Humanity representatives, Thrivent Financial representatives and members, and of course, the excited partner family will gather at 1133 Garber Ave. to honor the hard work, the generous financial backing and the community support that made this home possible. The homebuyers-Thaer, Mayyadah and their two young children-are more than a little eager to move into their new home.
They have completed more than 400 hours of "sweat equity" helping to build the home, a basic tenet of Habitat for Humanity. They will repay the no-profit mortgage over a period of 30 years, illustrating Habitat for Humanity's objective to give families a "hand up" rather than a "hand out."

"This celebration is a new beginning for a family in Lincoln," said Nancy Muehling, Executive Director of Lincoln/Lancaster County Habitat for Humanity. "This affordable home will not only give the Al-Derawi family a strong foundation, it will strengthen our community as well."
This new home is a result of a partnership between Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, this partnership has resulted in hundreds of decent, affordable homes across the country since 2005.
Thanks to its 2.6 million members who own financial products with the organization, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is able to contribute to the improvement of communities like Lincoln, Nebraska. The Thrivent Builds alliance also engages volunteers-members of Thrivent Financial, members of area Lutheran churches and members of the community at large-to work alongside the partner families to build these homes.

"Being able to help provide a family with a home means so much to Thrivent members", added Harold Sutter, President of the Lancaster County Chapter of Thrivent. "This year we have seen many families in distress due to the economic conditions of our country. As a show of support to a family that has endured so much and worked so hard to finally own their own home, the Lancaster County Chapter of Thrivent has provided the family with a special gift.
Thanks to a $2,000 grant from the Lancaster County Chapter of Thrivent, the Al-Derawi family won't have to worry about finding the money to stock their pantry or set up their new home. Thrivent volunteers and Board members have shopped and filled their cupboards with food, dishes, linens and other essential items every new homeowner needs. During this season of giving we hope others will take our lead and donate their time, talent and resources to families like the Al-Derawi family who just need a little help getting started."
