Thrivent Builds With Habitat for Humanity...
Hope and Help for ALL Lutherans
Lincoln/Lancaster County Habitat for Humanity (L/LCHH) has a number of volunteer opportunities in Lincoln on this year's Thrivent Builds Project. Volunteering on this project would be a great way for Thrivent members and members of Lutheran churches to express their faith in a bold new way.
In 2011, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans® awarded L/LCHH a generous grant, which has been applied to the home at 1133 Garber Ave. in the Belmont Neighborhood of Lincoln. During the first week of August, several Lutheran and Thrivent Financial members came to the Habitat warehouse to help build the walls for this home, and on August 13th those walls were raised and the roof trusses were set into place.
Work on the home will continue through the rest of the summer and fall and all Lutheran and Thrivent Financial Members are encouraged to help in any way they can, including words of encouragement and prayer.
Construction workdays for volunteers are every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday starting at 8:30am and continuing until 4:00pm. Volunteers do not need to go for the entire day; they can come and go from the site as is convenient for their schedule. Groups of four or less volunteers do not need to sign up ahead of time, but we would encourage them to call the Habitat Office at (402)-477-9184 the night before they want to work and the worksite address will be announced on the outgoing message of our office's answering machine. Lunch is provided and served either at the Thrivent Builds job site or one nearby.
Anyone interested in providing lunch for a construction workday should call the office (402)-477-9184 to get on our lunch providers schedule. If church members or Thrivent Financial members would like to come as a group of five or more volunteers, they should call ahead to arrange a workday (because of restrictions regarding job site supervision, we prefer groups be limited to 12 at one time).
L/LCHH is eager to demonstrate its success and participation among the Lutheran community of faith and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans® Members.
