Thrivent Builds With Habitat for Humanity...

Hope and Help for ALL Lutherans

Volunteering to work on the Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity homebuilding project is a great opportunity for your church and its members to come together, have some fun and serve the community.

Volunteering to be on the construction crew is one way to participate in this build project, another part of your volunteer service can also include preparing lunch for all volunteers on the site during the Thrivent Builds project workdays. This can provide an opportunity for volunteers to get involved that are not comfortable swinging a  hammer. Lunch time is a very important part of our volunteer's day and as such, is a very important and well received volunteer opportunity.

Please let us know in advance if your church or group does want to volunteer on the construction site or provide the volunteer lunch, and arrangements will be made to put your group on our schedule.

Meet This Years Thrivent Builds Family...

Thaer Al-Derawi FamilyThaer Al-Derawi and Mayyadah Al-Dahhan,
Ali, and Fatima

Family Partner: Jihan Khidir

Originally from Iraq, Thaer spent seven years in a refugee camp before coming to the U.S. He first moved to Michigan but the crime and life in a large city prompted him to seek a safer and smaller community. He and his wife, Mayyadah, have now lived in Lincoln for four years. They like Lincoln a lot and plan to stay, remarking that people in Lincoln are kind and very friendly and he has not felt discrimination here. Thaer has worked for a manufacturing company for the last year and Mayyadah is taking classes to improve her English. They have 2 children - Ali, 2 and Fatima, 1. Friends and family are pitching to help them with their "sweat equity" hours.
