Aloha ,

More than 500 people from Ko'olau Loa and beyond came together last Saturday to celebrate and help dedicate our community bike and pedestrian path in Malaekahana!

An Envision Laie project, the meandering path is nearly a mile and a half long and sits about 15 feet from the highway. The 8-foot wide path runs between the Kahuku and Kahawainui bridges, and includes a section off the highway that runs south near the Cackle Fresh store and connects into Laie community via Wahinepee Street.

The project is a collaborative effort between landowner and primary sponsor, Hawaii Reserves, Inc. (HRI), the Laie Community Association (LCA), the Kahuku Community Association (KCA), Operating Engineers Local Union 3, and community residents and local businesses.

After a short program, long-time Laie resident Dale Hammond dedicated the path with a blessing. Following the blessing elementary and college students sang and participated in Hawaiian chant, along with a local hula halau and Cy Bridges, who finished the oli. The crowd then cheered as kupuna untied the maile lei to officially open the bike and pedestrian path.

Many thanks to everyone who helped to make the dedication a true community celebration!
