Aloha ,
The City's last public input meeting held in our community on the Ko'olau Loa Sustainable Communities Plan is tomorrow --Tuesday, December 7th at Kahuku High Cafeteria. Parking will be limited, so come early to join us for a tailgate at 5:30 p.m. Our attendance and input is vital to our community's future.
We're also pleased to announce that work on the Malaekahana community bike path officially commenced last week -- check out the story below. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow afternoon!

Tomorrow night residents have a final opportunity in their community to voice their opinions about the City's plan that will guide land use here for the next 25 years.
Another event being held at the high school that same night will make already limited parking scarce. Beat the parking rush and join us at 5:30 p.m. to tailgate with the family before the meeting.
If you want to see affordable housing and more jobs in our community, it's vital that you attend. Opposing voices that don't want any growth for our community -- some from outside our area -- have been working hard to prevent our opportunities for affordable housing and jobs, and will be at the meeting to voice their opinions.
Contact us to request a free Envision Laie t-shirt to wear at the meeting, or simply wear a light blue or white t-shirt to indicate your support. Our collective attendance in support is critical to our future. |
Bike Path Work Officially Begins

"Road block" finally cleared allowing path to roll forward
| J.C. Chang begins official work on Malaekahana bike path |
Despite overwhelming community support and numerous offers for volunteer assistance, the Malaekahana bike path ran into a road block shortly after groundbreaking in September. Fortunately, the path was cleared last week and work began immediately. Pane Meatoga, Jr., Laie Community Association president, talked about the "road block" and resulting delay, "As the coordinating association between private businesses, volunteers and landowner Hawaii Reserves, we needed to get liability insurance in place before any work began. That took much longer than we expected or wanted." Meatoga continued, "Thanks to HRI and LCA Board Member, Verla Moore, we were able to obtain 'bridge' insurance coverage. The necessary paperwork was in place this past Friday and work officially commenced the very next day. We appreciate J.C. Chang's volunteer work on the backhoe to kick off this great community service project."
Volunteer work schedules will be coordinated by LCA board member, Kevin Schlag. Those wishing to assist should e-mail Kevin at itcouldbekevin@gmail.com.
