This week the Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting
(DPP) released its Public Review Draft for the Ko'olau Loa Sustainable
Communities Plan (KSCP).
For nearly two years, Envision Lā'ie has engaged area residents,
through workshops and community meetings, to make their voices heard. Surveys were also conducted to determine residents' desires for the future of the
community. While proposed city plans do scale down the scope, a number of Envision
Lā'ie's community-based proposals are included in this review, such as workforce housing and an
alternate access road.
This is just the beginning of a long public process. Your participation as a community resident is encouraged. The deadline for
public comment (in writing) is December 15.
"We recognize that this is a process for the entire community and that we need to find solutions that work best for the community as whole," said Eric Beaver, Hawai'i Reserves, Inc. president.
There will be many opportunities to make your voice
heard -- through letters, emails and written testimony. We'll let you know as they
arise. There will be public hearings as well.
Once the KSCP is adopted, it will become the foundation for
planning for the Ko'olau Loa region through the year 2035. That's why our
voices are necessary now.
General information about obtaining the public review draft and how to
respond will be available at the next regular Ko'olau Loa Neighborhood Board
meeting.
