KEF kicks off
2012 Mentoring Workshops

The arrival of summer means our favorite yearly events are here - our Mentoring Workshops
Students from Loitoktok, Nairobi, Machakos and Narok at the
2012 workshop in Nairobi

Just last week, 85 students from various schools across the Nairobi region gathered at Nazarene University for a weekend of learning, sharing and fun- thank you to all our guest speakers, presenters and volunteers for another fantastic Workshop.

An especially BIG "thank you" to Nadia Kist from Seeds for Hope and the team from Africa Yoga Project: the Workshop would not have been the same without you!

Additional workshops are scheduled through mid-July: our Form 1 and Form 3 students are eager to meet one another, exchange ideas, learn valuable life-skills and support one another.

Support from across the USA

The KEF is fortunate to receive support from a number of middle schools and high schools that contribute to the education of their Kenyan peers.  From bake sales to dance performances and many other creative fundraising events, we commend them for their inspirational efforts!

This month, we acknowledge Max Eber and Westhills HS'(CT) Global Good team for their sales of Maasai beaded bracelets to benefit the KEF - thank you guys for your generous contribution!

...And all the way from Minnesota, we acknowledge students and staff at Hastings Middle School: inspired by a local reporter's story on Kenya, students selected the KEF as one of two beneficiaries of its yearly Spring Fundraiser! Thank you to the students and teachers for their efforts and generosity - check out some photos from their tug-of-war....
Feeling inspired?  Are you a teacher or middle/high school student? Contribute to the education of your peers in Kenya!  Contact us at info@kenyaeducationfund.org or at (212) 792-6300x6427 to learn how
YOU and your class can make a difference!
KEF Scholars out in the world
Meet Juddy

As in our last issue, we love to share updates on our former students - this month, we want you to meet Juddy, who graduated from Narok's Maasai Girls' Secondary School in 2007.  A that time, Juddy was part of the Nomadic Kenyan Children's Educational Fund (NKCEF) with whom we merged in 2011.  She recently sent us this beautiful note:

"I would like to most sincerely thank you for all the assistance you offered me...you made me achieve what many have not achieved.  I am now working in the Ministry of Provincial Administration & Internal Security.  I want to really thank you: if not for your scholarship, I would not have come this far.  I have started learning again since education is the key that unlocks many golden doors.  I am studying at the Kenya Institute of Criminal Justice completing a certificate in Security Management. Every time I count my achievements and blessings, I always remember you as my foundation of a brighter future".

We wish you the very best Juddy!  Thank you for your kind words.
Plan on joining us at our
Tee off for Education event on Monday, September 10th, 2012 - for additional information, email valeria@kenyaeducationfund.org or call us at

Aid for Africa

The KEF recently attended a meeting with our partner, Aid for Africa.
The event brought
together many
 like-minded organizations
and was a great opportunity to network, exchange ideas and share best practices.

We are a member
of the
Aid for Africa Girls Education Fund - a special initiative comprised of organizations focused on educating young women.
Funds donated through this program are allowing Prudence, a KEF student, to attend school at this very moment.
To learn more about the fund and see how you can help, we encourage you to visit their website by clicking here.

You can also find them on Twitter - @AfricaGirls Education
