August 22, 2012 Dear WGBA Friends and Colleagues, I have been amazed by the generosity of all of the SE2 conference sponsor companies this year. Have you seen the list? We Energies, Focus on Energy, ESI, Boldt, Miron, HGA, Mortensen, Madison Environmental Group, Kohls, Target Commercial Interiors, Graef, Findorff, Me2, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Lafarge, Trane, Insight Magazine, C-77, The Daily Reporter and Biz Times. I cannot emphasize enough how vital the support of these companies is to make this conference possible. It is not just financial support that has created this year's event. In-kind donations have always been a big part of SE2. One unique donation this year that has been monumental in shaping the look and tone of this event is the custom graphic design work donated by Scott Carlson, owner of C-77 Graphic Design. Scott contacted us in January to inquire about a membership and explained that he wanted to work with sustainably minded businesses. Scott donated the masthead you see featured on the main conference page as well as all of the web and print design pieces. The stylized "vintage industrial" look of the SE2 branding this year is a result of Scott donating many of hours of custom design work to create a unique look that has increased the interest and appeal of the conference tenfold. We are so thankful for his efforts and humbled by his dedication to support our mission. Scott has a degree in Industrial Design from Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design and a degree in Graphic Design from UW-Milwaukee. As an Industrial Designer he worked for companies including BMW, Dyson, Brooke Stevens, GG Studios, Coca-Cola and 5+ Design in Hong Kong. Scott has designed lobby interiors in China, Bombay Gin bottles in New York, concept cars in Germany, household appliances in Milwaukee and England, and a concept motorcycle for Harley-Davidson. He proudly posts the WGBA member logo on his website, which I encourage you to do also. Thanks to all who have given their time, energy and talent to supporting this event. The conference is truly a collective effort by all of you, the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance. More to come ... |

2012 SE2 Conference
Vivian Loftness to Present "Linking Sustainable Design to Health and Productivity"
Vivan Loftness, Professor at the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University, will present "Linking Sustainable Design to Health and Productivity" at the 9th annual SE2 conference. The changing nature of work is leading to innovation in workplace design that should inspire investment in buildings. Organizational aspirations for collaborative, sustainable, and dynamic workplaces can be met by dynamic infrastructures and investments in workplace quality - spatial, ergonomic, visual, acoustic, thermal and air quality. While an ever increasing number of clients and professionals are committed to designing innovative and sustainable work environments, the investment community still has not moved beyond first cost decision making. This presentation will link workplace quality with outcomes that matter - individual and organizational productivity, health, technological flexibility, and environmental sustainability - to arm professionals with evidence based arguments for investment in sustainable improvements to existing buildings.
Vivian is a University Professor and former Head of the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University.
She is an internationally renowned researcher, author and educator with over thirty years of focus on environmental design and sustainability, climate and regionalism in architecture, and design for performance in the workplace of the future. Her research has contributed to innovative design projects with leading architectural firms, the General Services Administration, and international governments. She has served on ten National Academy of Science (NAS) panels, the NAS Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment, and has given four Congressional testimonies on sustainability. Vivian is recipient of the National Educator Honor Award from the American Institute of Architecture Students and the Sacred Tree Award from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). She received her BS and MS in Architecture from MIT and served on the National Boards of the USGBC, AIA Committee on the Environment, Green Building Alliance, Turner Sustainability, and the Global Assurance Group of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. She is a registered architect and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
