The Transformation of LEED: Adapting, Evolving, Reinventing

Innovation and reinvention are in the DNA of LEED.  Change will always face resistance, but, as we move forward with LEED v4, our approach and timeline for LEED development will determine our impact on the future.  USGBC faces influential new detractors but these obstacles will not prevent LEED from continuing to be a powerful decision-making tool, in its existing state and in future iterations.  This session will focus on the goals of LEED v4, the unique challenges of the market today and the possibilities that LEED presents for dynamic and real transformation.

Linking Sustainable Design to Health and Productivity

The changing nature of work is leading to innovation in workplace design that should inspire investment in buildings.  Organizational aspirations for collaborative, sustainable, and dynamic workplaces can be met by dynamic infrastructures and investments in workplace quality - spatial, ergonomic, visual, acoustic, thermal and air quality.  While an ever increasing number of clients and professionals are committed to designing innovative and sustainable work environments, the investment community still has not moved beyond first cost decision-making.  This presentation will link workplace quality with outcomes that matter - individual and organizational productivity, health, technological flexibility, and environmental sustainability - to arm professionals with evidence based arguments for investment in sustainable improvements to existing buildings.

A Day in the Life of a Smart, Green Building

This presentation begins with a "near-future" scenario describing a day in the life of a smart, green building which integrates distributed generation, energy storage and advanced control technology with enterprise IT systems and smart grid communications.  A number of case studies will then be presented which show examples of this advanced functionality in place today and how it contributes to improved energy efficiency and sustainability at a building, campus or enterprise level.
