Lake Michigan: A WATERfall of
Opportunity! | |

Join this discussion about new opportunities and projects in
the emerging Milwaukee Water District
Cohosted by NAIOP Wisconsin, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, and the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance (WGBA) the event will feature a panel discussion about our greatest asset; water, and how it impacts the region and the commercial real estate industry:

Dean Amhaus Executive Director, Milwaukee Water Council - Created by leaders in both business and education, the Milwaukee Water Council is convening the region's existing water companies and research clusters, developing education programs to train our talent, and building partnerships that cut across all sectors and geographic boundaries. With a mission to advance Milwaukee's position as a world water center, Mr. Amhaus will provide an overview of the work of the Milwaukee Water Council in economic, talent and technology development centered on water technology. In particular, Mr. Amhaus will describe one of its most pioneering initiatives, the renovation of a seven-story warehouse in Milwaukee's Walker's Point neighborhood into a water research and business accelerator center. The facility will house water-related research facilities for universities, existing water-related companies and accelerator space for new, emerging water-related companies. The project is being developed by HKS Holdings, LLC. He will also discuss how the MWC will work with commercial real estate professionals interested or with clients interested in this specialty niche.
Rocky Marcoux, Commissioner, Department of City Development - The City of Milwaukee has been working with City Leaders and business professionals for over 4 years to put together a Tax Incremental Financing District for the Reed Street Yards, a 14 acre nearly vacant site owned by Peter Moede of Atlas Development located in the Fifth Ward, on the south side of the Menomonee Canal and just east of the 6th Street Viaduct. The area could be considered a mini-Menomonee Valley.
Dan Casanova, Senior Economic Development Specialist, Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee - Dan Casanova has been with the city since graduating from the UW-Madison Business School with a degree in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics in 2004. He is the City's project manager for the Reed Street Yards. The goal of the Reed Street yards TID is to create an urban technology business park, focusing on water-oriented industries.
Bruce Block, Shareholder and Chair of Real Estate Practices, Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren - Mr. Block has been practicing law since 1979. He has significant experience in a broad range of real estate matters including land use planning, zoning, eminent domain, historic tax credits, multiple and mixed use ownership structures, TIF and construction and design contracts. His extensive contacts in both public and private sectors are key factors in his ability to navigate complex transactions to successful and creative conclusions. Mr. Block represents the Water Council and HKS Holdings in the preliminary development work on the Water Accelerator project across from Reed Street Yards. He will discuss nuances of this project including the role that the City of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Water Council had with each and discuss his vision of how our valuable asset, water, will play a role in Milwaukee's future.
This event has been approved for 1.5 GBCI CEUs
