Consumer demand for alternative energy, rising energy costs, corporate and business interests in "greening" their companies, utility and state incentives, climate change and carbon footprint reduction are all driving market growth. TODAY! May 5, WGBA Northeast Member Meeting(formerly called the "Fox Valley Member Circle"): Wednesday, May 5th, 4:00 PM-5:30PM. Jefferson Elementary School Auditorium, 1000 S Mason Street, Appleton. Mark Hanson, Director of Sustainable Services at Hoffman LLC, and WGBA's Green School Committee Chair will give a presentation entitled Wisconsin's Green K-12 Future. Mark will use the work of WGBA's Green Schools Committee to look at the progress in providing a green school for every student in Wisconsin within a generation. Although school remodeling and new construction are slowed by a difficult economy, progress has been made in greening schools.

May 6, Hunzinger Green Building Conference, Brookfield

May 7-8, Southeast Wisconsin Water and Energy Efficiency Expo, Waukesha County Fairgrounds. Information

May 18, Madison-area (Southwest Wisconsin) WGBA meeting, Tour the LEED-NC Platinum Holy Wisdom Monastery. 5:30 -7pm [social ½ hour followed by a tour of the building and grounds]. The deconstructed and rebuilt monastery has earned a stellar 63 out of a possible 69 points under LEED-New Construction (NC) version 2.2, making it the highest-rated LEED-NC building in the United States to date! The grounds have been managed under an ecosystem / habitat restoration plan for over a decade. Refreshments will be served. There is a suggested $5 donation to the Benedictine Women of Madison.
