Greetings!

Happy Fall.  A favorite here in New England.  A sign of change, a refreshing mix of colors, cool weather and back to school schedules and routines.

Change may also bring a mix of emotions and challenges for those diagnosed with ADHD.  As this realization begins, it is crucial to understand the importance of ADHD Education; starting with WHAT ADHD IS and ISN'T.

Q:  I just came from the pediatrician with an ADHD Diagnosis for my child.  I am feeling very overwhelmed where do I begin?

A:  Although you are feeling overwhelmed know that there is support available and that you are not alone!  The first step is to create a support team for your child.  Make a list of the people currently supporting your child and the role that each person plays.  This might include family members, coaches, and teachers.  Next ask yourself does your child need academic support, emotional support, social skills support, sensory integration support or a combination of supports.  This is when you assemble your team.  Your pediatrician or school psychologist are good places to start for professional support people in your area.  You can also Visit Chadd.org  for information on local support services.
