Organic Summit & Natural Products Expo This Week in Baltimore

I am in Baltimore this week for the Organic Summit and Natural Products Expo East. It's an exciting time for the industry.  According to the Organic Trade Assocation, the organic industry grew nearly 8% in 2010 at time when "flat is growth" is the current trend for many other segments of the economy.

 

Given the state of the economy this is particularly notable.   It is clear that ever more consumers are choosing to buy organic and natural products, and retailers are beefing up their product selections to meet the demand.  

 

Where will the industry go from here? Based on current trends,  the future looks bright.   However I recently read a less optimistic report about comments made recently by the chairman of Nestle, the world's largest food company.

The "Millennial" Generation Favors Eating Out and Demands Diversity

According to a new report from the NPD Group the so-called "Millennials" (people who are currently aged 18 to 29) have a lot of clout, largely due to their numbers. There are currently 52 million of them in the U.S. and their number is expected to increase over the next 10 years. Millennials will take over the Baby Boomers as the most sought-after target of marketers.  What do you need to know about them?

Emerging Brands Marketing Enters Into New Partnership

I am very excited to announce a new partnership with Ken Madden and Brian Riccio at Madden Partnership Marketing (www.madden-associates.com). 

 

Ken and Brian are highly respected in the industry - Brian was one of the original founding members of BJ's Wholesale Club in the 1980s.  Madden Partnership Marketing works with select food industry client partners (such as Uno Restaurants) and trade partners (Sam's, BJ's, Costco) to create and sustain new strategic business opportunities.

 

Now I will be working with them and new clients to develop new branding strategies and products specifically for the wholesale club channel.
