The Winter Fancy Food show took place again this year in sunny California which was a pleasant break from the crazy weather we have been experiencing here in New England. The constant snow storms have been a major distraction...hence this newsletter is a little later than originally intended.

Once again the Winter Fancy Food Show did not disappoint those seeking exciting new products, flavors, and product concepts.  Winter Fancy Food Show Entrance

To give you a flavor of the show's highlights, I have bundled my thoughts into 6 categories:

1) Products with whole grains or healthy ingredients

2) Healthy products for kids

3) Hummus in great variety

New USDA Dietary Guidelines are Out - Many Perspectives on Their Meaning

 

USDA 2010 Dietary GuidelinesThis week the USDA released the long awaited 2010 Dietary Guidelines.  I found many perspectives on this in the news this week.

 

 


 

The Guidelines recommend eating seafood twice a week which presents a great opportunity for the seafood industry according to Seafood Source.

The IFT says this presents new challenges for Food Technologists.

Some say politics too influential in the process. Are the guidelines really influenced by the interests of the food industry?

What do the guidelines mean for consumers?
