Shavuah Tov, a good week ahead!  Thanks for your flexibility in meeting at an alternate location. It was great to be back on a regular schedule after the High Holy Days.  I am continually reminded of how much I love the spirit and singing that we all do together.

Shameless Promotions & Announcements.  We have a solid start to our October fundraiser (see below).  You have all been a great support and  many of you have already been immensely generous.  Please consider a (large or small) donation to help us build a solid financial base for the coming year, and to help bring in some exciting musicians.  If you are able, consider upgrading your membership from guest to Mishpacha (Shir Hamakom family) or to Shomrim (keepers of Shir Hamakom).  Consider a small contribution of $18 or $36 to mark a birthday, anniversary or special event.  We appreciate your support which helps to strengthen us.

We are in the final stages of exploring a raffle for a MacBook, iPad, and iPod Touch.  More to follow.

We all have the opportunity to meet for a second time this month. Arnie Davidson and Shelly Aronson will be guests at Temple Sinai  (41 West Hartford Rd, Newington, CT 06111) on Friday October 15th at 7:30 PM with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett and Cantor Donna Gordon. Join us for a Shabbat worship filled with familiar music. INFORMATION.

Finally, tell a friend to be sure and join us for our unique "Boomer Shabbat" on 11/12/10.  Our guests from Falmouth, MA who conceived this popular service will join us in an evening of familiar song.  We'll be singing music of the 60's and 70's. entirely in English, which substitute for the flow of prayers in our Hebrew liturgy.  This is a perfect way to introduce someone to Shir Hamakom and our creative worship, and is a great opportunity to share our worship with Interfaith partners or friends from other faiths, no Hebrew skills required.  Oh, and dress the part, break out your tie-dye, beads and bell bottom jeans.  Just fun and song.

At our worship yesterday, we continued with the idea of including a secular song that echoes a Jewish theme.  In an email from last week, I spoke of Harold Kushner's idea that we complete God's work through our expression of love and forgiveness.  Our song was Jason Mraz' I'm Yours.  Here is a link to a great live performance of this fun song.  Lyrics are to the right of this page.

Enjoy a great week ahead.  Don't forget to take the opportunity to stop and send love and forgiveness.  At home, we have a message on our refrigerator, reminding us as parents: "Children need our love most when they deserve it least."  Good advice for us all when we are about to get reactive with the situations that life sends our way.

Your turn.  Take a moment. Help us with our HALF-A-CHAI fundraising during October with your contribution or membership commitment.
Your donation and support is fully tax deductible, and every contribution, large and small is appreciated and important.

Birthday, anniversary, or celebration this month? Something to be thankful for? Honor the day by supporting Shir Hamakom.

I'm Yours

Well you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks
Now I'm trying to get back
Before the cool done run out
I'll be giving it my bestest
And nothing's going to stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some

I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you're free
Look into your heart and you'll find love love love love
Listen to the music of the moment babay sing with me
I love peace for melody
And It's our God-forsaken right to be loved love loved love loved

So I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I'm sure
There's no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours

Scooch on over closer dear
And i will nibble your ear

I've been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and laughed
I guess what I'm be saying is there ain't no better reason
To rid yourself of vanity and just go with the seasons
It's what we aim to do
Our name is our virtue

But I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I'm sure

Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you're free
Look into your heart and you'll find that the sky is yours
Please don't, please don't, please don't
There's no need to complicate
Cause our time is short
This oh this this is out fate, I'm yours!
