| Message from the President
Tim Drury
I am looking forward to a great year. I am proud to be able to serve as the 2010-2011 Board President for Leadership Kitsap. When I look back at the past few years of my involvement in Leadership Kitsap, I am struck by how great of an organization this has become. This is due to strong leadership by the Board, committed support by our sponsors and the dedication and ingenuity of class members. I am proud when I read newspaper stories about the Leadership Kitsap projects that are benefitting the community in so many ways. I am proud when I see a Leadership Kitsap alumnus running for office, getting involved in community endeavors or receiving some type of important recognition. I am proud to be associated with an organization that has set such a high standard of achievement. I know that the incoming class of 2010-2011 will also make us proud. It will be interesting to see what exciting projects they come up with and what mark they will leave on us, on Leadership Kitsap and on our community. I know that the Leadership Kitsap Board is energized and ready to make this the best year possible. We all look forward to your involvement and support in 2010-2011. |

| Orientation * Class of 2011
A Great Kick-off for the New Class
Orientation was a huge success! There was 26 out of 30 class members in attendance. LK president, Tim Drury, did a great job welcoming the class by sharing his personal story. Project co-chairs, Phedra Elliott and Corinne Beach did a wonderful job facilitating two activities with the class as well as giving an overview of community project expectations. Greg Abell, Dr. Gina Huston, and Leslie Cole provided great insight to Challenge Day expectations. Greg Abell also spoke about the benefits and challenges of working in teams. The alumni presentation by Dr. Sandi Cross was fantastic! Addressing the new class of leaders with enthusiasm and motivation, Sandi challenged the class to be the best they can be. A special thanks all the Board of Directors who came in support of the evening. In addition to those mentioned previously, Kim Churchill, Dr. Greg Lynch, Carly Michelson, Jessie Palmer, and Melissa Tippets attended.

| LK Opening Retreat * Class of 2011
The Year Begins at Seabeck Conference Center
The Leadership Kitsap Class of 2011 officially began their ten month journey in the program at Seabeck Conference Center on September 10th. The two-day retreat was sponsored by Contract Management Services and Kitsap Credit Union.
Dr. Richard Strand, Dean for Business and Technology at Olympic College, opened the retreat with his thoughts on leadership. Dr. Strand's perspective on what it take to be an effective leader was well received by class members. Dr. Laurie Adamson, Director of Women's Programs and College Success at Olympic College, introduced the class to the concept of "servant leadership". She challenged the class to see how servant leadership can fit into their organization and life. Other presenters for the retreat included: Helen Ojeda, Kitsap Regional Library; Karen McNamara (LK02), Harrison Medical Center; Greg Abell (LK Board Member), Sound Options Group; and Rachel Wellman (LK07), Olympic College.
Project Co-Chairs, Corinne Beach (LK10) and Phedra Elliott (LK10), facilitated an in-depth overview of LK project guidelines and had examples of past projects on display for the class to view. The retreat was successful in getting the class prepared for their ten month community leadership journey.
Leadership Kitsap thanks community sponsors: Port Madison Enterprises/Clearwater Casino, Sound Options Group, and Watson Furniture.

LK Alumni Association News
LKAA had its first new year planning session with incoming president Maurice Correia. Maurice takes over the reins after two great years of leadership from outgoing president Ned Newlin. The planning meeting was held to plan for the year and hear any new ideas about the directions of LKAA in the coming year. This also gives the team ideas on how to make the LKAA experience better and more inclusive. The planning session took place at the Pizza Factory in Port Orchard; there was great pizza and great ideas from the planning meeting participants. Some of the areas that were discussed include a discussion for Secretary and VP. Connie Mueller will be taking on the roll of Secretary while we are still on the lookout for a new LKAA VP. Let us know if you are interested. We also discussed the financial report and discussed alumni communication. The outcome of this meeting was great and within the two hours, we had well over 20 ideas on ways to communicate better with the alumni. Some of the ideas for the community project were adopt a park, adopt a road, or support other local agencies and organizations. One of the man topics was better LKAA alumni involvement, event planning and gatherings with family oriented get-togethers, and ideas for youth involvement in LKAA. We look forward to your feedback and participation as class reps. Let us know if you have any ideas even if you cannot make it to the meetings we would love to hear your comments and feedback as we progress through this year. Thank you to Kathy Nelson and the Pizza Factory for providing the meeting location and refreshments. *Our Next Proposed Meeting is at Family Pancake House on Kitsap Way in Bremerton on Thursday September 23, 2010 at 7:30 AM. The meeting will be approximately 1 hour. Remember we are just a click or call away.... Visit us on the website or on facebook!
