ILA & USMX Resume Talks October 10

ILA FLAGThe ILA & USMX will resume contract talks on October 10 in Florida under the supervision of a federal mediator.

A 90 day contract extension recently averted a threatened ILA strike at East & Gulf Coast ports when the ILA and USMX, with the help of a federal mediator, agreed to extend the contract through December 29. This Wednesday's meeting will be the first formal meeting since that agreement was made. All parties entering the negotiations have imposed a media blackout on the negotiations.

Union and employer representatives have been meeting in the interim to work on local and regional contracts that supplement the master agreement. The most contentious local agreement is likely to be that of the Port of New York and New Jersey where the employers are looking to make substantial changes to decades-old work and pay practices.
