United States Celebrates Columbus Day
NY/NJ Ports Holiday Schedule
The celebration of the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival to the Americas is not just a United States holiday, it is also observed as Dia de la Raza in Latin America, Discovery Day in the Bahamas, Dia de la Hispanidad, Fiesta Nacional in Spain, Dia del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural in Argentina and Dia de las American in Uruguay. Christopher Columbus first stepped foot on American soil on October 12, 1492. The holiday commemorating this date has been unofficially celebrated since the late 18th century and officially since the early 20th century. In the U.S., the holiday is celebrated on the second Monday in October.
In observance of this holiday, Monday, October 8, 2012 is a holiday at the terminals in New York and New Jersey. All terminals and the SeaLink Office will be closed.
