ILA & USMX Resume Talks This Month

A 90 day contract extension recently averted a threatened ILA strike at East & Gulf Coast ports with the ILA reporting that the President expressed concern about a potential strike 5 weeks before Election Day.

The National Retail Federation indicated that while the extension is a significant step forward, "retailers' concerns won't ease until a new deal is reached."

The ILA and USMX, with the help of a federal mediator, agreed to extend the contract through December 29. All parties will resume talks this month on a master contract with the hope of resolving the significant differences that still remain.
