Steamship Lines Make Significant Revision To Port Congestion Surcharge

Steamship lines today announced a significant revision to the proposed Port Congestion Surcharge (PCS). In the event of labor action at the East & Gulf coast ports, steamship lines will apply the PCS to cargo arriving at both East & West coast ports based on arrival date and not date of export. This means that the surcharge could now apply to cargo that is already en route to the US.

Effective from October 1:

$1000 per unit

Effective from October 2:

$800 per 20' container

$1000 per 40' container

$1125 per high cube container

$1266 per 45' container

If no labor action occurs, the surcharge will not be applied.
