Improvements in IPR Enforcement Showing "Great Strides"
In a report issued by the Office of Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC), the past 18 months have shown improvements on IPR enforcement efforts. With the implementation of 33 action items defined in the Joint Strategic Plan for Intellectual Property Enforcement, improvements have been seen in the areas of securing supply chains, pursuing sources of counterfeit and pirated goods and meeting the challenges posed by emerging criminal trends such as online sales of counterfeit pharmaceuticals, economic espionage and targeted theft of trade secrets. IPEC will encourage trade partners to enact similar measures to develop voluntary agreements that will result in reduction of infringement in their own international and domestic supply chains. In addition to reaching out to foreign trade partners, the U.S. will be working, on a voluntary basis, with U.S. companies from a variety of sectors to review their global supply chains to keep them free of pirated and counterfeit goods and reduce the risk of theft of trade secrets.
