WTSA Announces Rate Hikes on Westbound Transpacific Cargo
Effective Nov. 1, an increase in freight rates for U.S. to Asia cargo will be implemented by members of the Westbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement.
The WTSA stated the hikes are targeted at recovering costs and restoring rates to "sustainable levels" for the following commodities: waste paper, metal scrap, plastic scrap, hay, hides, forest products, "protein cargo" (refrigerated beef, pork & poultry), agricultural products (peas, beans, lentils, grains & soybeans), chemicals, clay, cotton, freight-all kinds (FAK) cargo, refrigerated "NOS" cargo which includes miscellaneous dairy products, baked goods and prepared foods.
The WTSA carriers have started notifying shippers of specific increases. The increases can also be found on the WTSA website. The WTSA members include: APL, COSCO, Evergreen, Hanjin, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai, "K" Line, NYK, OOCL and Yang Ming.
