Natural Bowel Care Program: Gluten free eating |
|

Gluten is a type of protein found in grains such as wheat, rye and barley. People who avoid gluten-containing grains are said to be on a "gluten-free diet." Some people have to avoid gluten due to an allergy or intolerance. People with celiac disease, a medical condition where the intestine is damaged by gluten, also have to follow this special gluten-free diet.
In order to successfully follow a gluten free diet, it is essential to have a good understanding of which foods and ingredients contain gluten. When baking, substitutions for gluten containing foods are made to ensure the food is gluten free.
Valley flax flour is the ideal choice to use to create a gluten free product. Flax flour is gluten free and provides numerous other health benefits. Flax flour contains both insoluble and soluble fibre, healthy omega-3 fatty acids lignas and high quality protein. Flax tastes great and can easily be incorporated into many foods.

Horse Sense: Why feed your horse flax? |
|

Flax is a natural source of energy, fat, and fibre for horses. Regular feeding of milled flax seeds has been shown to be very beneficial to horses.
Flax is a source of gel-forming soluble fibre and non-soluble roughage, which help prevent or eliminate colic, a major killer of horses. Every 250 ml portion (1 cup) provides approximately 27 grams of dietary fibre. "Colic is not a specific disease. It is an indicator of abdominal pain. Colic occurs in indigestion, intestinal spasm, impactions, constipation, intestinal obstructions, feed toxicities, migratory worm infections, peritonitis and dozens of other conditions and diseases."
