Healthy children, Inside and Out; Understanding Childhood Obesity and Emotional Eating
Summer is here, and although many children and teens look forward to the time off from school, vacations to exciting places, and time to be with their friends outdoors, many children and teens dread it. Many children who are overweight do not participate in beach and pool outings due to embarrassment about their bodies. They often avoid doing physical activities such as rollerblading, bike riding, or participating in sports. According to a report by the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion in 2008, 19.6% of children aged 6 to 11 years and 18.1% of adolescents aged 12 to 19 years were overweight. What is most concerning for our society is that those numbers continue to rise.
What is most concerning for parents is the effect these numbers are having on the emotional wellbeing of our children. They often view themselves as unlikable and even unlovable. They typically have low self esteem which prevents them from taking on new challenges in their life. Many are followers because they fear rejection by their peers. They lack confidence in forming relationships which impacts their interpersonal skills.
So, what are the causes of obesity in our kids? Most parents are familiar with causes such as children living a more sedentary lifestyle and eating unhealthy meals at popular fast food joints. Most kids watch more than two hours of television every day, and video games have replaced much outdoor play. Parents are working longer hours, and it has become much more convenient to go through a drive-thru than to cook a healthy meal at home.
What many parents do not realize is that their child may eat for comfort.
As many adults may have an after work cocktail to relax, children will eat for the same effect. Children and teens are very much aware of their weight, and constantly compare themselves to what is "acceptable" in our society. Despite parents' consistent reinforcement that the children are loved and cared about at home, parents are often confused as to why their children have low self esteem. Parents reinforce to their child that it simply doesn't matter what other children say, but as good as these intentions are, they go in one ear and out the other. Children and teens are far more concerned with being accepted by their peer groups and fitting in. If a child does not feel accepted by his peers, he may turn inward for comfort. Food never criticizes, never makes fun, and is always available. Many children will eat until they are more than full, and in this way feel comforted on the inside.
So what can parents do?
First, take an inventory of your views on food. Do you eat for comfort? Do you offer food as a reward, restrict too many foods, or offer food as comfort to your child? Do you catch yourself criticizing yourself, others, or your child for being overweight? Parents know one of the greatest teaching tools they have is their ability to role model. Sometimes making simple changes in our interactions with our children have the most profound effects.
Make dinner time an opportunity for the family to talk about the day, without listening to the blare of the TV in the background or feeling forced to answer that all important telephone call or text message. This small change sends the child the message that they're valuable; what they have to say is important and they are significant. . Log on with your kids to find recipe make-overs that will draw them to the dinner table.
Encourage your child to spend more time outdoors... with you. Put the family on a TV diet; everyone must participate so that the child is not singled out.
Finally, listen to your children talk about their bodies without being judgmental or critical. Rather, empower the child to make choices on their own to be responsible and own their power.
These simple acts encourage communication and promote self-worth. They allow the children to feel heard and know you're really listening to them.
It is my passion to give children, no matter their age a voice in this world. I am committed to supporting them in getting to the root of their issue so they may speak with an empowered voice. I offer a holistic approach to counseling in order to assist your child in gaining a new perspective on food and clearing any issues that may be causing your child to feel "stuck". I also work with the family to help promote healthier conversations and changing your family's relationship with food and each other.
Our Children deserve to be happy, healthy and joyful!

ACQUIRING WISDOM AND PEACE The practice of asking meaningful questions By Bettie Spruill (Master Trainer) Why ask questions, anyway? The "right" questions hold the power to create greater openings and ideas and move you beyond passive acceptance and resignation. Questions honor you and when you are listening - really listening - the realm of infinite possibility is more available to you and the people you serve. Socrates once said, "A life unexamined is not worth living." Having a set of great questions is a meaningful way to examine your life and business. Without questions that evoke different realities, you will only blame yourself or someone else for whatever your circumstances are. If there is a challenge in your life a great question might be - what is the purpose of this challenge, what is wanting to be expressed through me at this time? As you ask these questions and others, be still and listen. See if you can listen past the constant chatter of doubt, frustration, blame and credit that is such a constant part of our lives. Get a journal or some way to record your thoughts and start writing and keep writing until you experience a state of peacefulness from within and then let go. (Writing by hand keeps you in touch with your breath and heart). Here are a few more questions to get you started. What is aching to be expressed through me? What do I need to yield to in my inner most being? If time and money were not an issue, what contribution would I be to humanity and the world? What is the purpose of my business and am I honoring that purpose? If yes, how and if no, what's in the way? What can I let go of in my life that no longer serves me and my purpose? What unique gifts, talents and skills do I bring to the world? How am I using them (or not)? Don't forget to consider the vital information that other "aspects" of yourself are giving you. When you use only your head, your experience of yourself and the world is more limited. What is your body telling you? When someone yells at you, does your stomach tie up in knots? Do your shoulders stiffen when you've been too focused on fulfilling others' needs and ignoring your own? Notice the messages your body is giving you. Check in with your heart. The heart is the home of what is most alive in us. What does your heart have to say about your job or business? About how you spend your days? Does it need more play time? What, according to your heart, really matters? Listen to your intuition, your "gut." Your intuition speaks volumes, but often gets ignored. What is this voice saying now? Can you even recognize this voice anymore? Don't forget to notice what you already have that is working. Acknowledge and give thanks for the gifts and the beauty and the miracles that are in your life right now. Write them down. I recently came across the Law of Ausar; Your nature is an unconquerable peace, Therefore nothing or no one in the world can Be against you. All experiences come to you To promote your reclamation of peace, that You may in turn, acquire wisdom and power. Tell the truth. Now is the time to start being honest about who you really are. Awakening to those unexpressed aspects of yourself and allowing them to emerge can provide an exhilarating sense of discovery, peace, power and happiness for the New Year and beyond. If you wish to learn more about the Law of Ausar and know that everything in this Universe is for you and not against you, and learn more about asking meaningful questions, join me in Masters Course.

Malicious Software (spyware) Removal
By Brian Haines - FL61
Removing malicious software from computers running Windows has become a routine part of what I help many of my customers with. Some of this is so routine that I am comfortable with the user performing these steps themselves. In many cases the following steps will clear up the infection and restore the computer back to working condition. The computer needs an active working Internet connection to perform these steps. Sometimes the Internet is actually working even if the browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome) is not. If the browser is working then download the application ComboFix from this Website, under files (top right) saving it to the Desktop - please save to the Desktop and don't simply run the program from the browser. If you cannot use a browser on the computer (malicious software often disrupts the browser from being used) you can try to download from another PC and copy to a USB flash drive. Then copy the file to the Desktop of the infected machine from the flash drive. If you know how to disable your Anti Virus software then it is highly recommended that you do. File protection, or active scanner needs to be disabled as well as any firewalls related to your security suite - if using one. You need not disable the Windows Firewall. If you are unable to disable these then you may try ComboFix anyway - your mileage may vary. Execute (double click) ComboFix from the Desktop of the infected machine. Click okay to the message about it not being affiliated with xxx Website etc. and allow the program to access the Internet (If your firewall asks). If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is not already installed on your computer then allow ComboFix to install it for you. This application is sometimes needed depending on the type of infection. After confirmation of the Recovery Console ComboFix will begin a scan of many (50+) parts. Do not try to run any other software while it is doing so. You may notice that your screen goes blank, or the computer may even restart. Login if needed, but ComboFix will auto start to finish it's routines automatically. Allow it to do so. When complete, ComboFix will open a log file in Notepad detailing what it found and the actions taken. Don't worry, I don't understand most of it either. You are not done. Next, download Malwarebytes by clicking the link on this site under Files (top right). This opens a new window and takes you to Download.com Don't be fooled by advertising banners on Download.com with "Start Download" buttons on them. Click the "Download Now" link on the left side of the screen under the green text "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware x.xx" Install, Update and Run the program choosing the "Quick Scan" option. When Malwarebytes is finished scanning it will display a "Show Results" button, click that and click "Remove Selected". When complete the program will show a log in Notepad and may request that you restart your computer - answer yes. Now, re-enable your security software and cap the above activity with a scan using your resident antivirus software. Be aware that some antivirus software becomes compromised by malicious software. Usually the user is unable to complete the above when this is so and your computer really needs a visit from a computer professional. If your antivirus software will not update properly try reinstalling it, updating it and scanning. In most cases this will save you the hourly service call I make to remove the threat from your system. Sometimes the malicious software will thwart the downloading of the two programs above, or keep them from running once downloaded. In these cases you might need professional assistance because threats this invasive can be more of an art than a science to completely remove. If I don't have success downloading or installing the above software, I may boot into Safe Mode with Networking and perform at least the ComboFix portion from there. Happy Computing! Creating A Healthy Lifestyle

By Steve & Marie Fulghum NYC LP40 & 41
Have you ever felt like reaching a healthy weight or having your ideal body is unachievable, that no matter what you do you can't seem to be able to sustain energy during the day, sleep well at night or manage your stress? If so, you are not alone. Many people feel this way and they often blame themselves for not being disciplined enough, having no willpower or a lack of motivation. The reason most likely is not having the knowledge and tools to attain and maintain a healthy lifestyle. These are three key components to having a plan in place to getting healthy and staying healthy: Modify your behavior We have probably all heard "be, do, have". I must get clear on my goals and visions and adjust my attitude before I can achieve what I want. If you jump into and new plan or "diet" with the same mindset as you had when you did the last one, it is likely you will have the same result. The first step would be to write out your goals and why they are important to you. This will support you to get connected with it and change your outlook. Then, find a coach and a support system to guide you through the process and to hold you accountable. Also, keeping a journal and sharing it with your coach will hold you accountable help you to make conscious choices. Once you are clear about your goals and what you are willing to put aside to have them, you will be ready to formulate a plan to achieve it. Create healthy eating habits Learning what foods give you sustainable energy throughout the day and supply your body with the nutrients it needs is very important. It has been scientifically proven that eating foods that are lower glycemic is crucial to achieving this. The glycemic index (GI) is simply a way to measure how quickly foods process into glucose (sugar) in your body. If a food is high GI, it processes quickly and if it's low GI, it processes slowly. Some examples of low GI foods are apples, mangos, pineapples, asparagus, avocado, fish, chicken, beans and lentils. Eating a healthy balance of these foods will stabilize your energy level during the day, burn fat and increase your metabolism. Learning what these foods are, when to eat them, how they work in your body, how to prepare them, shop for them and it fit it into your lifestyle is essential. If you are eating foods that you enjoy and that are making you feel better in every way, you are much more likely to continue it and it will become a lifestyle. The goal not to just simply change what foods you eat, it's to change your relationship with them. Changing your body composition In other words, get moving. Proper exercise will build lean muscle and burn fat. This will lower you body fat percentage and increase your metabolism. It's important to perform cardiovascular exercise as well as strength training. Cardio is raising your heart rate for 20 minutes or more, continuously. This can be swimming, biking, dancing, group classes, spinning, running, etc. Find things that you enjoy doing as well. Strength training is not only lifting weights and your goal does not have to be to get huge guns. Strength training can be achieved with bands, pull ups, push ups, and many other creative ways. Work with someone to come up with an exercise routine that is right for you that you can fit into your schedule and can stick to. We have been supporting people in implementing these strategies for the past few years. We have been amazed by the results people have by committing to themselves, having a plan and taking action on it. We have seen people lose as much as 40 pounds in 12 weeks, lower cholesterol level drastically, reduce and even eliminate prescription medication, and lower blood pressure. Besides that, we have seen people whose belief in themselves goes up resulting in improvements in other areas of their lives. We have worked with Summit Education in the past, coaching this system with incredible results. Summit will be offering the Personal Health & Fitness Transitions program the first week of July. This is a great opportunity for you to put it all together and make a change in your health....for good.

Beginner's Mind
By Dennis Becker Discovery & Breakthrough Trainer
"There is not one big cosmic meaning for all, there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person." Anais Nin Years ago I was living and teaching personal development trainings in Japan. One time as I was doing the introductory seminar I noticed a distinguished looking gentleman in the middle of the audience. I inquired about who he was and found out that he was the CEO of one of the largest and most successful companies in Japan. I was intimidated. Here I was, a young trainer starting out. And from my young eyes, this man had everything; wealth, status, community standing, and was the patriarch of a well respected family who was known for making a positive difference in their community and world.
He was a regular mediator and had been practicing Zen consistently for over 36 years. In short, he was what I wanted to be. At the end of the seminar he came up to me, excitedly talking about all the personal value he had created. I listened to him, and finally asked the question that was on my mind, "how is it that you, as a successful, spiritual man whose seems to have it all can come into an introductory seminar and create so much value for yourself?" And he replied, "When I came into the seminar I imagined myself as a box. First I took out and set aside all that I knew, and then took out what I thought I knew. My goal was to become an empty box. So that something new could fill the space." "Vision without action is a dream. Action without vision is simply passing the time. Action with Vision is making a positive difference." Joel Barker Imagine being an empty box-and being filled with inspiration, companionship, fun, laughter, and a feeling connection with your best self. This is what you will experience when we join together for the Light Warrior weekend, August 7, 8. This training is about experiencing the best of who you are, reconnecting with your sense of purpose, and your vision for a healthy, loving, and sustainable world-and taking action now to create it. I am looking forward to being with you-in purpose and in fun--see you there Love Dennis "Every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another."

i-Live!
By Sarah Suero FL 146 (Yoga Instructor & Life Coach)
"If not you, who? If not now, when"? This simple sentence describes a life lived on purpose. The practice of yoga is a practice of presence. Not only the poses in the flow, it's also the practice of vulnerability and equanimity on your mat and in your everyday life. Yoga is life, life is yoga. All manner of tangible and un-tangible beings flow together each connected to each other in a magical way.
Somewhere between the teen-age and senior years, we lose the 'wonder of it all'. It's the essence of passion and joy in being ALIVE. The i-things have become all consuming, the glitz and glamour of what tangible things the world has to offer. Please don't be all sensitive and misunderstand, those things make my life easier too. What happened to the joy in learning how your fingers and legs move as a baby? As you lay on your back with your feet in the air in 'happy baby pose', a smile plays at the corner of your lips. Normally we don't pay attention to this wondrous body until it screams in pain. The body is a gift. Not one to be punished at the gym after eating that delicious Peppermint Pattie or Snickers bar, but loved and listened to. Notice the next time you eat a bite of food, later how do you feel? Your body speaks to you each moment of the day like a little child babbles on about her day. Tune in, to the whispers, there's truth to be told there.
The breath is the defining moment in each yoga pose, conversation, and life. When you take a breath for that small moment your world is quiet. Silence is the wisdom within, that small voice within you, your Jiminy Cricket, God or Goddess, universe or whatever you choose to call it. Speaking allows you to express yourself; silence allows you to experience yourself.
Yoga allows you to create space for yourself, to be in your grandest expression. Ground down through your toes into the mat, reach your hands up, grab onto your dream, and bring it into your heart. It is never too late to become what you might have been! Sarah is a certified yoga instructor and life coach. She supports individuals, small groups, and corporate businesses in living their lives on purpose through yoga and a holistic approach to life. She is also fluent in ASL and she is quickly becoming the yoga instructor and life coach for the Deaf.
She is the co-founder of One Yoga Solution, with her husband Eddie Suero, a yoga and life coaching company making yoga accessible to ALL. She gives workshops on yoga, meditation, clean diet, stress management, and Deaf Yoga. You can contact Sarah at 904.307.9281 or sarah@oneyogasolution.com. The Secret About Awesome Abs
By Steve Williams FL142 (Martial Arts & Fitness Guru)
WARNING: What you are about to read is what the people from the ab infomercials don't want you to read. What you are about to read is all 100% true! What you are about to read is the truth about ab workouts and how to get "the perfect abs you've always dreamed of." Enjoy...
I realized that on average, at least once a day I see one of those infomercials about ab workouts. You know them, the ones that have a bunch of guys/girls with pretty good bodies all standing around talking about ab workouts and how great this product is. Maybe they will use it to show how it works, maybe there will be a diagram drawn to show what part of the ab muscles it works, maybe there will be a big speech about why it is better than ANY of the other abdominal machines and abdominal exercises, and better than anything you can possibly do for your abs. Personally, I love the names. The "Ab Doer," the "Ab Dolly," the "Ab Swing," etc., but my question is, why don't they just name it the "Ab machine that will totally waste all of your money and do absolutely nothing for you, except help us people in this stupid, bad acted, infomercial make money." The truth is, no matter what Chuck Norris or whatever other idiot in the commercial says, it is all a big lie. The truth is, EVERY one of the ab machines you see in EVERY one of these infomercials is 100% useless. The truth is, the ab dolly, the ab doer, the ab slide, the ab lounge, etc. are all a big useless waste of money, and one big lie! The truth is everyone in these infomercials with the perfect 6 packs and flat stomachs all got that way WITHOUT using the dumb abdominal product they are advertising. There is only 1, I repeat, there is only ONE way to get a stomach like that and it has nothing to do with any kind of "magic" ab workouts or abdominal exercises. It's the huge secret that everyone in those commercials don't want you to know because if everyone knew this secret, these infomercial idiots would all have no jobs. So... the BIG secret is... You have to have a low body fat. It's as simple as that.
You don't have to spend $19.95 to swing in the "Ab Chair" for 8 minutes a day, you don't spend $29.95 to ride the "Ab Dolly" for 3 minutes a day. All you have to do is have a low body fat; not do some kind of magic ab workouts. The brutal truth is we all have perfect abs. The 2000 pound guy who has to be lifted out of his house by a truck because he's so fat, has perfect abs. I have perfect abs, you have perfect abs. EVERYONE has perfect abs. The problem is most people just can't see them. Why? Because their body fat is too high. Eat a perfect diet, and do cardio, and your body fat will get lower, and your abs will be able to be seen. Sure, doing abdominal exercises and working out your abs is good, this helps strengthen and build your ab muscles, but that won't do much for you if you can't see them because there is a layer of fat covering them! Everyone in these ab infomercials swear that the ab workouts they are advertising are "the best!" They swear that their stupid useless abdominal product is the best, fastest, and most effective way to get the "perfect abs you've always dreamed of." The truth is, you can get those perfect abs by doing 15 minutes of plain old crunches 2 days a week. My ab workouts consist of a few different types of basic abdominal exercises like crunches (weighted) and leg raises, weighted twists and sidebends. The workout usually lasts about 15-20 minutes. It's the diet and the cardio that give you the low body fat that allows your abs to be visible. Not the Ab doer dolly lounge swing fling thing useless piece of crap blah blah blah! You get my point. So, the next time you see one of these infomercials, be happy. Feel good about yourself. Why? Because you know the truth. You know the big secret, you know that somewhere out there is someone who is ordering this stupid product right now... and you're not! Be happy that you know what you really have to do to get the perfect abs you've always dreamed of... and lucky you... you even got to save your $19.95! A lot of guys and girls are looking for a solid abs work out program that can take them by the hand and help them get six pack abs quickly and naturally. While everyone wants a tight midsection, hardly anybody is willing to put in the time required to get tight abs. If you really want to figure out how to get tighter abs, and you get the fact that you're going to have to put in some work for it, then I've got a effective ab work out for you! Before I jump into the six pack workout, I want to let you know that getting six pack abs is going to take a lot more than simply laying down and grinding through a few hundred Swiss ball crunches. In most cases, you will find in the gyms at least 8 people at a time working very hard on building their abdominals, but only a handful of them actually uncover an impressive six pack. Over the course of a year, I can easily estimate that a few thousand fitness minded people spend hours each week hammering their abs without anything but sore abdominal muscles to show for it! Why is that? I think that most people don't even realize that in order to expose their abdominal muscles and get washboard abs, they need to focus on losing body fat with free weight workouts and smart nutritional choices, not by training their abdominals. It really doesn't matter how effective your ab work out is, you won't be able to see any of your abdominals until you lower your body fat to a reasonable level. So instead of performing non stop abdominal workouts, learn how to strip away body fat first and then focus on training your abdominals. Not only will you get a tight mid section faster with this approach, you won't get frustrated when you put in all of the hard work training your abs only to discover that you can't even see them!
A Effective Six Pack Workout This six pack workout focuses on all of your abdominal muscles in an efficient order. Typically you want to focus on performing the leg lift movements first, and then your obliques, and then your more traditional ab exercises like crunches and decline sit ups. Training your abs in this order trains each of them in an order that makes the most sense.
Just think about it, the hip flexion movements require alot more work to finish than either the twisting oblique movements or the upper abs exercises like crunches. What you find if you piece together your ab tightening workout in this way is that you'll be able to effectively train all of your abdominal muscles without prematurely fatiguing any of them.
Abs Exercise #1 - Leg Lift MovementHanging Knee Raises - Perform 2 sets of 6 - 8 repetitions with a 1 - 1.5 minute rest in between sets.
